Cup brake light LED

I was just wondering before I buy a whole new unit whether it would be possible to just solder in a normal 12v LED strip? I have a few lying around and seems like an easy job? Or am I missing something? They're waterproof strips too which would eliminate the problem if water came into contact like before.

The unit itself is in good condition, but not the end of the world either way as it's only £20 for a whole unit.

Cheers!

Well for anyone wanting to do this too, I simply removed the existing renault LED unit. Pulled out the connector and soldered this to my LED strip.
Removed the little opaque light diffusion plastic from the housing and stuck the LED strip to it after cutting it down to size.
Connected it back to the car and it works perfectly. Cheap simple fix and with it being waterproof should hopefully last for a long time. Will grab some pictures tomorrow if anyones interested? I don't see the point in a whole unit when new LED strips are about £2.
