Where did you buy your stud kit from? Looks spot on!

Cheers

Here buddy.

http://m.ebay.co.uk/orderDetails?itemId=111930358224&txnId=1555505446001

This is without nuts mind. I'm probably going to buy different ones so that's why I went for just the studs. These are "BMW" studs but they are the same thread as the 172/182's so all is good. If you message them they will do you a custom package, if you are after 2 different sizes. That's what I did and paid one price :)

Car looks really sweet mate, its th eonly rb i respect on here as most are driven by girls who have a tantrum over breaking a nail and ordering the wrong driveshaft @imprezaworks

Haha, cheers mate!

Looks fantastic now Mark - keep me updated on how your finding the GAZ's, I'm seriously tempted!

Can't help but think it could do with some spacers on the front? Front wheels look lost under the arches now it's a bit lower...

Thanks James. I also agree regarding spacers. Check out the previous page ;)

@Jimbob 2705

I have a knocking noise from the rear. I know it's not the suspension as it did this with the old shocks, plus these are new. Sounds like something is loose in the boot. Will need to look into that. It only does it on uneven ground.

Going to book in for alignment on Saturday.

Got the studs and spacers fitted. Had a bit of a result: Phone up the stud company and wanted to order studs but didnt have my card details with me. Got the paypal adress and i said id send it in the afternoon, but didnt have time due to work. Came in after the weekend and nuts were here! Bit of a c**k up but im not complaining. Meant i could fit the studs now. I will get some longer steel ones at a later date, the GT50's probably in black.

Not the best, but better than seeing gash holes for sure.

Recently i had a knocking noise on the rear. After a lot of investigation it turned out to be the rear coilovers. I tried everything, including swapping the helper springs round, removing them completely, rasing it, adjusting the damping, loosening the top mounts, etc! I even tried @MrBlond cup shocks and cooksports to see if it definitely was the coilovers, which clarified it was. I did somehow manage to get one top mount nut stuck and when i turned it with the allen key, it broke the stem! Needless to say i wasnt too happy!. After a call and few emails to Gaz direct, it was arranged to go up there today. Give them there dues, the service was spot on. They was very assuring it would get resolved hassle free and it did.

Drove up there today and after they had a look, it turned out the knocking was in fact the valving. Because of the nut/stem issue, they gave me 2x new rear coilovers and re-valved the shocks. All free of charge too. The 2 chaps that helped me today (Byron and Paul) were spot on, along with Warren the MD at Gaz. Cant fault them one bit. I went up there with Emily and after speaking to them and looking around the unit (which i took pics off and will upload them in here in a bit) we had a bite to eat in sainsburys and they even picked us up from there. Loads of praise to be had there, top customer service :) Drove around the industrial estate and then home all with no issues

Few pics.

Forgot to mention that i had the car aligned too. However i do think that ive ordered too soft a spring with these coilovers on the fronts (275lbs) so i may opt for the common 325lbs for the fronts at a later date so the alignment will have to be done again. This isnt too much of an issue as im going to buy some bits soon. These consist of:

New PAS pump
New AUX belt
New clutch
Gear oil
New genuine driveshafts, both sides.

This will be done in the next month, all done by Alex. I think i'll look into a service book so i can record all the work that has/will be done DIY style.

Good stuff sorting it all out, the car looks spot on now with the spacers, just finished off the look nicely!

Really interesting seeing the GAZ HQ photos too, when you just see the end product, you never think about how they start life lol!

Glad you got it sorted Mark, good on GAZ for getting it sorted and not going on the defensive like most companys.

I'd get some covers/something to protect them though, my KW's were second hand but were moving fine when I put them on just under a year ago. Now I'm having to take them off and replace the collars as they're stuck solid.

Thank you Steve. I asked if it was OK and they said it was fine. They let me roam around and its nice to see how things are made/done. Its also nice for others to see too so I thought I'd share in here :)

Yeah I totally agree mate. They could of denied it and then it would be hassle to finally get the issue sorted, but it was completely the opposite. Very impressed with them.

I will look into covers for sure. You can get some off demon tweeks (mototec) for around £30 a pair so I'll buy 2 in a month or so once funds are a bit more free. Definitely something that I'll be buying before the weather gets grim for the winter.

Is that how much covers are?

As I say, I'll be taking mine off next month to fit the new collars and I was going to get some but didn't know they were that much as I haven't actually looked. Seen that some people use sprays to repel that dirt and road crap and also using electric tape on the threads.

Hwy buddy! Glad to see you still got it and that its treating you well. Ive always said that the BG was a good one to own mechanically. Great new on the house purchase too! :)

The arches are already rolled on the sport shell.

Sorry, what i meant was more than standard. I think ill leave it for the time being.

Lovely!

Is it just the lighting, or is your car quite a pale shade of RB, as it looks different to eg @imprezaworks

I dont know. But mine is just under double the mileage of Dan's and i drive mine so itll have gone light from the sun. The only light @imprezaworks gets is from hes garage forecourt as it never moves, it just gets waxed!

Probably the lighting and my twelve gallons of wax/polish combo.

Oh and iPhone ftl

Agreed!

I ordered some 68mm studs as i was unhappy with how far the 75mm studs poked up. New ones turned up but turned out they sent out 90mm!

29673738575_8510d4d84c_z.jpg

So a phone call to them and they sent out the correct ones. These then got lost in the post, so another phone call and i finally got the correct ones through.

I managed to get a bulb holder off @Ads29 as it turned out my bulb holder was playing up.

I also bought some cree sidelights and rainbow effect full beam lights.

Im in talks with getting the Sabelt retrimmed. This will be happening but not yet as other things take priority. It will be done by snappy and we have spoken prices and design. He and i aren't ready yet, but perhaps in the new year i'll be sporting a newly retrimmed wheel. Now that Renault have discontinued this wheel makes me want to do it even more! They've replaced this wheel with a Sparco one but it just doesn't look as good IMO, plus there's only limited number of them.

Apparently they had done 1000 miles. Unsure on that as they all say that but they haven't done much more and are in very good condition. I also got them at a great price and of course in 60mm spacing!

Now we use Gaz at work and have never had an issue. As you know mine knocked on the rear and Gaz sorted them out. Brilliant service there and can't fault them one bit. Ive been in cars with bilsteins and i had bilstein shocks with eibachs on my volvo but never owned coilovers. So let's talk the difference. As you know the Gaz's are damping and height adjustable, these just height. Gaz offer spring rates, these are fixed. Gaz do full coilover these do "normal" style. I liked my Gaz. They was very comfortable. I thought they was better than the cooksports in fact for soaking up bumps, plus you can go lower. Kit seemed OK to be fair. There a cheaper coilover and you can tell but for the money it's hard to fault them. But.... The Bilstein are far superior. The build quality is so much better. They look a better thought out kit. Oddly although there is more parts to the fronts, they are actually lighter. As for the damping, it's not needed at all. It's hard to describe but they are spot on during road driving/cruising around town but once chucked into a corner or bend they almost feel harder. It's like there progressive. Having driven to work on the Gaz's and home on the B14's the difference is very noticeable. Even the rear shocks are light. The springs look and feel a better quality than the Gaz/faulkner springs. Also the threads are finer meaning more fine tune ride height. I can now really see why they are raved about. In fact, I'd go to say that they ride better than my old BC's and they was nearly £800. Now I know there new on but I can honestly say, hand on heart that they are much much better than the Gaz's. Now I'm not slating the Gaz's but honestly between the 2, spend that extra. These will not disappoint you. You don't need the full coilover rear unless your going for fast road and track use on a regular basis as I feel that this setup soaks up the bumps better. Better ride, quality, design, etc. Worth the extra.

The adjusters go at the top!?

My bad... [emoji15]

Something I will need to amend! [emoji23]

Car looks awesome as always Mark! I knew you'd approve of the Billy's they really are a fantastic bit if kit.

I was worried before I hit Blyton as a few people had said they are a little 'soft' for track use, but IMO they're amazing on track! I'd go as far to say they performed better than my original SACHS... [emoji6]

And like you said for normal road driving they really can't be beaten.

When are we meeting up for some white 2118 photo whoring!?

(I'll get mine refurbed first)

My 68mm rear studs finally turned up so i took the car to work to fit them. A few days before Emily took the car to work as i took hers for an MOT. When i came home she told me she pulled the handbrake up too far and heard something snap. Upon inspection, its the drivers side handbrake cable thats gone through the caliper. This will be fixed soon, but it made the stud swap a tad harder. Nothing a pry bar between the studs couldnt fix!

Double nut trick worked a treat!

You don't mess about do you? Coming along in leaps and bounds! Brilliant as always.

Question in the coilovers, I'm thinking of putting the adjusters back on the rears of mine, how do yours fix in place at the top? I've got like a little metal disc and a bolt for mine but can't see how it'd work.

They are great mate and having them next to the Gaz's was good to compere the 2.

Adjusters definitely go at the top. If you look the writing is the correct way up. If the adjusters went at the bottom then the writing would be upside down as the spring can only fit in the adjusters one way! ;)

Looks fantastic mate, glad you like the Billies. [emoji41] [emoji106]

Cheers buddy! I should listen to you more often! ;)

Cheers Ethan! I'm not sure about KW'S ones but these have a cup that sits over the top bump. The cup is threaded with the adjusters in that. The OE rubber sits at the bottom spring and onto the the beam as normal.

Nice application of the sunstrip.
They never trim perfect round the edges mate dont worry about that

Thank mate. It was a bit of a pig but got there in the end!
