Megane

Been like an excited child all week, pick the thing up later this afternoon... :D

Focus ST goes back in October when the lease is up, I've had my eye on Megs for 3 months now to see whats what to get ready for October and this one came up, almost perfect spec for me. Phoned up, paid deposit without viewing, 3.5 hrs travel, test drive and bought car. 275 NAV with Cup chassis, Recaros, 18". Standard 'ClioToby' car buying process else I'd never make a decision.

Plans;

CAE dildo shifter because the gating on the box is DREADFUL!!!!
ITG panel filter
Maybe an exhaust
Maybe a remap depends how I feel about blowing my warranty..... Doesn't have the mid range grunt of the ST or a golf R but had plenty up top.
Track tuition to learn me to drive more better!!

Same colour as mine! You'll love it mate. Why did you go for the nav over the cup s? Genuine question

Thanks all
@Cribert I wanted a Cup S, but my 'must haves' were Recaros, the limited slip diff and the 18's whatever I was going to go for. So when that Nav cropped up for the right price and the right spec I figured Id go for that instead plus when I saw the colour I was sold.

No worries mate. You should have asked on here first! Cup s comes with 18s, LSD, cup chassis as standard. All you would have had to add was recaros. Also the cup s is cheaper on insurance would you believe!

You'll love it though. Great cars. Just don't expect much more than 30mpg ever lol

What is the actual difference between mk3 megs and cup megs? Apart from one coming with the cup chassis and associated items as standard

I know the difference between clios but I genuinely can't pick the meganes apart

The facelift Meg 3 275 has 2 options. Cup s and Nav. The cup s is the more hardcore of the 2. It comes with LSD and cup chassis as standard. You can option more performance related options to the cup s. To be honest though there's really not much in it at all

That still doesn't help lol

Can you spec sat nav, leather, climate, cruise etc etc on the cup? And is there any external identification between a cup and a cup packed car bar the little b pillar badge?

Because I'm sure I've seen some very well specced cups knocking around which should be the more sparse models.

I know mate I've done my research. I just saw that thought it was right and went for it. If a cup s came up with recaros I'd probably have gone for that instead.

Hope it lives up to the hype as that's what got me interested.

It's basically a cup s anyway with the spec you've got. It is lovely. The recaros finish it off so well.

Nice car, but as the pentagon salesman at csf said, "if you scratch it, you can't match it." apparently its a 3 coat paint that cant be touched up or matched, at all!
Enjoy it as much as gou can!

It should do, I've only had a ten minute go of one around oulton and it was brilliant.

I don't know if it had ohlins though because I remember the trophy r being a bit better.

But either way, the Meg 275s are pretty unstoppable on track

Hope its not true! Needs a good machine polish and maybe some paint touch up..

So I gave it a good seeing to down some local B roads when I got home last night. Where the Focus would have been all over the road and id of been pissed off because I couldn't actually enjoy it for fighting the steering wheel, the Meg was just cracking and so very capable. Also it does not tram line or torque steer in a straight line!!! Yes!!!

Still working out how much grip its got but it does seem to oversteer. The rear end is really quite tail happy and steps out whenever you lift off. It does appear to tram-line a little, but I think it may be the diff doing something to pull me back to center rather than in the ditch like the focus, i dunno, either way its not bad.

Really chuffed to bits with it. I think the ohlins would make the car perfect for destroying country roads. And I've also managed to coax a couple of pops and bangs out the exhaust which I think are forced but still the inner child in me enjoys them.

Ive put maybe 500 miles on it now and I love the thing. Been returning circa 20-22mpg but it seems to average over the space of about 5 miles so its always changing.

The original PS2s were just about done on the fronts and certainly past their best. So I was going to give them 2000 miles more then swap them for new PS2s. Then this happened - nail in the rear which was annoying considering the rears have LOADS of tread left.

So decided to replace the lot with 245 40 18 super sports. £550 later :(.

Set out to remove some scratches on the bonnet and then give the rest of the car a hand polish with tripple, topped with sonax turbo. 3 hits with a Hex Yellow and M105 and I got pissed off and gave up. The light swirls were barely touched let alone the scratches. So sprayed it down with turbo detailer and was done with it. Wont get chance to detail it properly until next year I dont think. Windows done with G1 and rain racer 3 weeks back along with the wheels getting a few coats of C5.

I am about to put an ITG pannel in it now, and I would like to do a mid box chop and remap at some point but not sure ive got the balls given how s**t the gearboxes are on these things. I am sure mines on its way out..... I have also got the car booked in at wheels in motion for an alignment just in case.

On the super sports it grips like buggery and the skittish rear end is all but gone now.

Gearbox on its way out?

I asked some owners and read a few things and apparently they all sound like 'junction signal boxes' although they sound as though they are relatively reliable with people putting 310 or 360hp through them with no issue. Theres no issue with the syncromesh atall theres no crunching into gear, they arent quick boxes so I never rush them. Just makes a lot of noise when changing gear which is very audiable with your windows down and cars or a wall either side.

I've a cup s and the gearbox is definitely the worst part of the car. You can hear every movement when changing gears but as you say it's apparently just the way it is. Great cars mind
