Fixing sunroof leak

(I have done a search but can't seem to find any detailed threads on this)

I have a sunroof which pools water behind the sun-visor on a day of heavy rain. I'm looking to fix this over the coming weeks. First, I want to know what is causing the leak - are the drain pipes blocks causing the water to seep in the interior? Do I need to completely strip it down? If so, what do I need to replace when putting it back together?

There might not be much on here but have a look on google and there'll be plenty. To cut a long story short Renault used a damming tape from factory (its mainly foam based) and over time it breaks down allowing water to seep through.

It may be that its justvthe drains thatbare blocked, theres one each side at the front and these run down below the scuttle panel I believe.

If it is the rape then the sunroof will need removing so the roof can be cleaned up and then re sealed, be careful with this though, if you decide to silicone the roof back as from my previous experiences once silicone is used if you need to remove the sunroof again it is very likely that the roof skin will crease

Where does the silicone need to be applied? It is basically what holds the black surround frame in place? Also, can you recommend any good silicone that I can I use with this job?

So long that it doesn't cause any problems in future I wouldn't be looking to remove it again.

My 1.2 sunroof leaked a few years ago and it was the original deal that had gone. If you take the glass out then the trim round the inside edge of the sunroof you will see a load of boots going all the way round 10mm I think.

You can just get a ratchet spanner in to undo all the bolts and it just lifts out. Once off and cleaned up you can you a good aquarium (clear) sealant or something called black gold, it's for dealing pond liners. Apply plenty round the edge and lift it back into place carefully and get all the boots back on. Leave it for a good 24hrs to set and it should do the trick for a good few years. I've not got any pictures as I ended up doing mine in the rain

Mine was done twice. Once by silicone and second time with the new foam seal, second time perfect and I believe it still is now. It takes about 10 minutes extra if you taking the sunroof frame out.
