Looks great! I do miss my Clio  Hopefully I'll be able to go halves on another with a friend at some point as a dedicated track car, I need the sound of ITBs back in my life lol.

I don't know how you have secured the solderless nipple on the throttle cable but I used epoxy on mine in addition to the screw and then cut/filed the cable down flat with the nipple. One time I was going through some tunnels with the window down making some noise then the next minute I was looking like a prat trying to screw the nipple back on... With the epoxy it never came loose, tbh it probably didn't need the screw! Something to think about before you start using it :tonguewink:
i'll look into it mate, spent a bit of time fitting it and cutting it down flush, seems pretty solid so i'll monitor it and go from there....... did the epoxy make a difference?

Well, I made a little progress over weekend, weather didn't help mind you but in between the rain showers I managed to get the aero catches fitted to the bonnet, which allowed me to get the bonnet secured and get out for my well awaited test drive. roads were very wet and although it started to dry they were still a little greasy, so no surprise it liked to spin up in second and third!! must admit the grin factor is there, the car feels very strong low down and through mid and high rev range and the noise is deafening  ............ before the ITB's, even though it was loud outside, inside wasn't that bad with the usual engine noise for a car with no sound deadening, but now that's drowned out and the car is just loud (in a great way!!)....... not caring what the rolling road says, the noise is worth it alone :astonished:. The difference in driveability was very noticeable on the base map alone, so i cant wait to feel how it goes after its set up on the rolling road........ so after the high of the test drive I spent the rest of the morning, and early after noon, cleaning up the engine bay, fitting the slam panels extensions and generally tidying up things (a few boring photos of the weekend work and results below)

the phot below just a trial fit before they were removed and all the exposed edges coated in red hammerite! hate the thought of any rust getting In!!

i had ordered up from Renault the bulkhead heat shield above / behind the manifold, but my impatience meant that i tidied up the exitsing one, removed the sound deadening and applied some metal tape to the edges. I like the cleaner look of the bulkhead vs the back padding! it will be a quick change over when the new one arrives  (I've removed the large lump of brass from the air con pipes too and i'll remove the stuff behind the dash over the winter if i find the motivation)
WP_20150802_005.jpg

Well I've made progress on the list a few posts back, so as soon as the new silicone breather piping arrives that can be added. I have already received the new ram air breather filter so that should smarten that up soon , and if the new springs ever arrive from AST then that can be finished off as well!! also still getting the replacement ITB filter sorted too so hopefully that arrives soon too!

That's about it for the weekend, time to sit back, relax and eat crap in front of the TV now.

I'll let you know how it fairs at RS tuning on Friday,it will be a long day trailering her down and back up the same day so i hope it will all be worth it!!!

Also the Ktec filter does work, it just needs oiling more regularly that the other filters do as its thinner than other filters. It doesn't fall apart like they used to (where they got the name 'filter of death') so as long as you keep on top of the oiling of it I don't see a need to change it

Very nice Craig hope to see you on track with it soon.
hope so mate, if I can get a few tyres swapped over and all goes well on Friday I may try for this Sundays open day. I'm not booking it yet, possibly will on the way back up Friday! are you in it?

Nope I'm in the air justnow heading to the Philippines with work. The next day I have booked is the drednaught night on the 3rd of sept , but may cancel that and book the csoc weekender.

I'm going to miss the CSOC weekender, Fraser was just emailing me the link, seemingly 10 places left but we are on holiday so no go , would have been good to get a closer look at few others down there and try out a different track.........

We will all need to get booked up for a trip down south next year, would also be good to try and organise something similar to the weakender at Knockhill so let the southern lot come up.
I think I'm going to get booked up for the weekender , I go on holiday the following week so thats bound to earn me a pass from the mrs lol

I've got one in at the moment that's killed the engine (amongst other things but I won't go there) filter has done 4 track days and is cleaned and oiled after every track day. Still didn't work.

Any bad feedback about the Jenvey one or the Piper Cross one (slightly cheaper to buy than Jenvey!) With all the bad feedback in not sure I want to take the chance with the k Tec one. On looking at it the k Tec one (hold it up to the light) it has got a little thin at one area on the trumpets.... I know Tom didn't use them that much so.....

Comments appreciated

A knockhill weekender would be amazing!
I agree mate. If we can organise something for down south next year that would be great. There's quite a few places to choose from and of course organise the same at knockhill, as Neil suggested, for the guys from down south to come up for.....

Blyton park was awesome, tbh I hope CSS is there again next year. A couple of extra hours travel for you lads compared to me but the weekend was epic. I'd say blyton is quite similar to knockhill (tight and technical) but lacks the undulation and cambers that make knockhill awesome.

Would be great to have the same up there, not sure who runs knockhill and how keen they would be though

Fraser said the same about Blyton. Highly recommended it! Pity my holiday conflicts with the September weekend as I would have enjoyed the trip down! knockhill may be up for it. Like most tracks they struggle for cash so it may be a cash generator for them.... ?

The pipercross filter is what I've spec'd for this build. Usual thing really, maintain them, and they'll be good for a long time.

Cheers mate.... So many views and opinions on this subject hard to know what to believe or do. Large consensus on the results of the k Tec item though!

Time and patience mate lol!! externally its pretty easy if you have the correct size hole saws and a grinder, always tape the bonnet up and drill small pilot holes first as a guide!!. Under the bonnet I should have got cutting disc for the Dremmel to tidy that up but I used the grinder as well. I will go back an tidy that up later, its not that bad to be fair, but I am a neat freak and like things just right lol - keep trying to tell myself its a track car after all!!

Looking good mate, will need to have a look at some point!

Yeah we must catch up mate, I've been meaning to nip down to have a look at your cup...... I look at your engine bay in your thread and think with the time and effort that's gone into my one I should have powder coated a lot more....... problem is that is what I do with my show cars and never use them! I enjoy using this so maybe not a bad thing lol.

Give me a shout when your free and we'll get caught up:up:

To be honest mate you've done it the right way lol. I've had mine nearly 9 months and still not touched the track or road!

In reality I should of just got it road worthy then upgraded as I needed, all this money later the lesson is learned 😂. I'll give you a shout in the near future anyway to have a gander!

Lovely car bud! Wouldn't mine a set of bodies on mine if I'm honest!
I was just looking at your thread mate, your car is coming along nicely  The bodies do sound spectacular and I'm hoping I see the results others have with them.

It looks like you may be bitten with the track bug now as well!

Yes mate for sure!
They really do sound fantastic, there was a few cars running bodies at CSS15 and not only do they sound epic they go really well too! Even bothering the turbo'd 182's.
I will follow your thread with interest bud, to see your thoughts on the bodies once everything is sorted!

It's coming along nicely mate. Fingers crossed for a good result following the mapping session. I wish I still had ITB's on my Trophy but sick to death of the f**king things after the luck I've had (and the money I've lost). I sincerely hope you can enjoy them to their fullest. I miss that ITB bark so much!

Well today's update.............. The last couple of days have been a bit of a pain to tell you the trust, topped off by missing out on today's track day at Knockhill! bit of a s**t@*r, but a time line below of the weekend events starting on Thursday night

Thursday:
Get back from Aberdeen to find the new filter has been delivered from Jenvey, so quick change and set to work fitting it, its kinda late & I should have just put the Trophy on the trailer and not bothered with the hassle, but when you get something new you just have to try at least............... So, bumper off, ITB extensions (Ph1 Toms elbow kit to put the filter into the grille) dismantled and the new backing plate fitted, re build everything and try to shut the bonnet and no joy, the Jenvey back plate lugs and the size of the filter over the k tec one mean that it isn't going to happen!! not wanting to cut the bonnet or butcher it to be fair to make this fit, I think lets remove the extensions, fit the back plate direct to the ITB's and get the filter on in a suitable lower position, simple you would think!!, not so, Jenvey had manufactured the back plate incorrectly (gap between the middle 2 is 4mm / 5mm too close together) and that means the holes are out and the plate cant go on! out by 5mm so no point in even trying to adjust them, of course I had the movement in the silicone elbows before but no such luck going direct!!

WP_20150806_014.jpg

so after the best part of 3 hours p*ss*ng about in the drive, the car gets built back up as it was before we started, minus the trumpet extensions, and loaded onto the trailer at "23:30". Im sure the neighbours were loving me, but since we were leaving at 4:30am the next day, better that than loading up at that time 😞!

Friday:
Up at 4:00, showered and set of by 4:45, a little tired but still excited about the day ahead! arrive at RS tuning at about 10:30

WP_20150807_007.jpg

Started off very poor at 182bhp.... Paul & Andy couldn't understand it, after analysis, which included a compression test (which was all good) only thing left to check was the timing, which was out........ Major thanks to them for taking the time to do this as it would have been a 12 hr round trip for nothing if they hadn't......

WP_20150807_020.jpg
WP_20150807_021.jpg

spent 2hrs resetting it and its on the rollers again and straight up to 190 & mapping starts again............... although things still things weren't going to plan... (beginning to feel like another Life and Times of a Trophy at this point, sorry Andy, couldn't resist - @SharkyUK )! The car seems to level out after 6300 rpm!! Paul couldn't understand it, every thing seems right, the spec means 200 comfortably and we are all scratching our heads! As a comparison they put a high compression build they are doing on the rollers with the a similar spec. it has cat cams of equivalent spec to my Piper 285 cams.... and the same spec ITB's from K tec, it just had the high comp internals.... anyway he ran that, overlayed the graphs and from from 0 to 6300 revs mine and it were almost identical bhp and mine actually had slightly better torque! then it just starts to flatten with the high comp going up to 198 bhp at the high revs.....!!

WP_20150807_019.jpg

By this time between tiredness, sheer frustration and just generally getting pissed off I had just lost my enthusiasm.....😞 but Paul was sure it had more to give!
Any way he ran it quite a few more times and with no improvement, as hes starting to look as frustrated as me, he opens the drivers door to talk to me, as he let off the power, and when free wheeled down his rollers quickly stopped.... looking conused / concerned he got out and started feeling my wheels which were getting quite hot..... we found the found the brakes have been binding binding on!!

As this is now nearing 5pm, time is not on side at all, we give it a little while to cool down, stick a bar in to squeeze the drivers outer pad back and he gave it another run, 196.2 & the passengers are still binding slightly and no doubt the inner pad is doing the same...., also the car is roasting as its had a fairly long time on the rollers........... Any way a maybe something salvaged from the day, but I'm still a little hacked off, but 196 with binding brakes maybe means it has a little left....................??????

Saturday:
Nothing Major happening with the Trophy today as too many other things planned, but i managed to fit in a polish and detail after i had fitted its new silver sticker courtesy of RS tuning
WP_20150808_005.jpg

WP_20150808_001.jpg

Only bit of upset on Saturday was phoning Knockhill to get told that the track day for tomorrow was full, my fault for leaving it to the last minute....!! Ah well, there was no need to free the calipers off temporarily to basically kill the pads and get what was left out of the discs, although on inspection by myself and Fraser these are looking pretty f*ck@d now after the roasting on the rollers which has left them a very funny colour!

Sunday:
Morning of pottering with the Clio , as the ITB bend extensions wont work with the Jenvey filter, I trial fit everything, and enlarge the grille cut to let more air into the filter since its not sitting directly behind the grille any more....... you'll note the blue silicone breather to match the forge hoses and the new ram air breather filter too
WP_20150809_009.jpg

also notice that the Trophy was also spotted by @Stu- on its 600 mile journey on Friday............ cheers for the compliments on the car mate, it tries its best!!

Well that's about it for this weekend, I guess it wasn't too bad considering everything and the main trial / test for the upgrades will be the next track outing on the 30th August, booked that up early to make sure i actually get on (lets hope it doesn't rain)............ The only things to do in advance of this is free the brakes off and fit the new AST springs if they actually ever arrive........... Curtis told me they were being posted Wednesday last week, Thursday latest and surprise surprise they never arrived on Friday!! not bad now 3 weeks 3 days for an over nigth delivery!

Well a big thanks to Paul, Andy and Craig at RS tuning for their time, banter & hard work and look forward to catching up with some of you soon at the track

I know, weather was spot on too.......... I was hoping to get up for a look mate, thought you might have been there.

another mate had bought a Clio too and is well and truly bitten by the bug it looks like so would have been good to see how he rated it over his RS4!

Good job as well. So f**king unreliable it's untrue. If he told you the truth it wouldn't be so bad, but he insists on lying.
I know, that's the main thing! just tell us when they will actually be sent and you can deal with it, this constant tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow pish just grinds on you!
