172 or 182 cup rear shocks on my 172?



off to buy new rear shocks tomorrow i gather 172/172 cup shocks are the same?
are 182 cup shocks any advantage and will they fit a non cup 172?

you can install any rear shock, but if you go with cup shocks I would change the fronts to cup also

if you have a non cup 172 and want cup shocks you have 2 options:
buy 172 cup shocks front and rear, they will fit with no other mods - this is what I'd be doing
buy 182 cup shocks front and rear, but you'll have to buy 182 front hubs also which have 60mm bolt spacing. If doing so you may consider buying 182 cup wishbones as they give a better caster angle. The 182 cup hubs have a stronger bearing and will add 10 mm of track width also(this I'm not 100% sure of). Doing so you will probably have to buy new driveshafts also because across the 172/182 range there are different driveshafts depending on specific model- this you'll have to check it out.
The front antiroll bar will be different too on a 182 cup packed car (it's thicker)
If you want my advice I'd stick with 172 cup dampers all round plus some eibach pro or sport line springs. Uprated dampers will work better with uprated springs.
