Xenon 182 Problem

Hello

Im new on here.
I just bought a Clio 182 2004 model.
With low ish miles 75k.
I have previous owned a 172 as well so i no my way around them

But here is the problem.
For the last 2 Days my rear fog light passengers side hasnt worked!!

At this point all other lights are working all over the 182.

So sure enough i found in the rear cluster that the terminal was corroded
So i cleaned up the connection and put it back togther .
rear fog lamp now working.

Then went to back the car into the garage and i noticed the drivers side xenon headlamp had gone out.

But it had been working fine with no probs.
And at the same time i have now noticed that the drivers side xenon washer jet is leaking down the bumper & empting the washer tank.

When you turn the lights on you can here the passengers xenon lamp start up and stay on with a zinging noise coming from it.

But the drivers xenon lamp is silent with no head lamp at all.& no zinging noise.no life by ear sound????

Could the washer jet thats leaking be shorting the starter or the ballast?

Or is this linked to the rear fog lamp problem?? Or just a big coincidence??

PLEASE HELP PEEPS.

sounds like its a ballast problem.is it working when engine is started as im sure only the passenger side lights up when just ignition only is on.also i doubt if the washer jet will do any harm as the ballast has a rubber seal and is water tight.also check fuses as both lights run on separate fuses.

Yeah fuses have been checked i found the 3 in a row.
But will double check tomorrow
The fact that i cant here a zinging from the drivers light would indicate thats there no power!

Its just driving me nuts.

no mate 10mm bolts with star screws theres a guide on here somewhere its really easy while its off you can sort the washer pipe .

The pipe may have come off the washer or its perished at a guess you wont know until you have a look,oh and you wont have to take wheels off to remove bumper.

The washers are notorious for leaking mate. Inline non return valve off ebay for a couple of quid cures it.
If I were you I'd buy a ballast anyway, because if it's gone you'll want to replace it there and then while the bumpers off. They're screwed onto the bottom of the headlight. Otherwise you'll need to rebuild the bumper, and then take it off again when you get a ballast. They're also a common issue btw.

I personally fitted the non returns in the hoses as they come up out the washer bottle. Saves removing the bumper again if and when they fail.

Thanks for the advice, but if i fit the non return valves will this stop the xenon washers working? As they would need to be fitted in the opposite direction. Wouldnt that make it fail mot?

No there are two pumps on the washer bottle. One does the windscreen, one does the headlights. Two pipes from each pump serving a single jet each.

All you do is fit a non return valve in each of the two headlight pipes and it'll stop them leaking. Obviously the valve is directional so you need to make sure you fit it the correct way round. They tend not to have an arrow telling you which way, but I just shuved it up against a football pump to see which way let air pass through.
EBay number of the ones I fitted. 231322995860

Ok thanks chap.

I will keep you guys updated as to the source of the problem

Right as it's a sunny afternoon I did what you guys said and took the front bumper and front headlights out.

I switched over both the starter units for the bulbs but that didn't seem to work.

So I switched over the ballast.
And hey presto the drivers side light now works but of course the passenger side doesn't.
So I need a ballast like yesterday.
Whole front bumper has been dropped but I don't really wanna put it back together until I've got the correct bits.

Ok Ballast fitted light up and running
Did the Xenon washer switch over as well
Fitting carbon covers looks very smart.

Thank you to you guys that helped and advised me , means alot!
