Mazda Performance Scone. Mazda 3 MPS Project Log

  ph2 172
A friend of mine just got a 3 with a broken engine. Built it up over the last 6 months forging it and what not, took me out the other day and wow! Definitely plenty of torque, I think he said he was running it in at 300bhp then see what it will go to, don't think it's a stock turbo.

Definitly an under rated car.

Nice. Yeah they're very understated. The stock torque output (280ftlbs) is plentiful and they pull very well. Mine will be going in for a major service soon, so will look at getting the pump internals changed and go for a remap, to get the mod bug going.

In fairness, I don't intend on keeping this for all that long so will not be going mental. It is however a great car, the engine is brilliant

Out of curiosity yours doesn't have an onboard display for fuel consumption does it?

They all do don't they?

You have to press the button to the left on the centre console, usually it just shows the time but when you cycle through with the button it does real time, average and miles left to fill up. Can't remember the name of the button though.

You have to do the same to see outside temp by pressing the AMB button.

Mine doesn't! We're talking mk 1's here aren't we?

Top left second one in, says info iirc

for the inside and outside temps it should be bottom right says AMB

Very easily tuned. Have a quick glance over these, the ones running stock turbo still are further down the page, figures are in KW and ATW.

Mine is on there too. ;)

I'll have to give it a go tomorrow then.

Cheers st3ve

Would have one of these as a sleeper, solid being a mazda. Other half wants an audi or something but seems a bit OTT shelling out all that money for something that's not used all that much.

As above, press twice for fuel info IIRC.

I'm at 28.3. Been that way for awhile

I hope mine works, be interesting to see how mine compares to yours. :)

Cheers @st3ve

That's what I like about it, although a lot of owners over here have stickered them up and fit splitters and headlight covers and things to make them stand out but it just makes them look tacky and cheap doing that.

I haven't read the thread, but do I recall seeing somewhere that these have a quaiffe diff fitted?

If so, is it all of them?

If I get one, would probably tinker with it to around 300 ish brake.

Have to see what the misses says haha

It's a mechanical torque sensing limited slip diff, and it works a treat. You can buy the Quaife for £800 though.

Don't think it really needs the quaife though, can really feel the standard working.

Not directly, I think they lack the same balance as the R26 and the Megane has a much better chassis, but it would have to be seen to be proven...not really looked into it.

Mazda is quicker on the straights though.

So...yeah. Life goes on as they say. Nothing to report.

Other than I want a front end respray.

Mazda paint is shocking. I can confirm however that these cars are somewhat at least bullet proof. Just a shame they're coated as thinly as a gnats **** paint wise. If you thought Renault paint was sketchy, think again!

Full respray time again maybe?

(half joking)

Apparently there was yes. Someone knicked my roof rack clips :D lol

Still doing 28.3MPG. Can't complain for a big lump and that's what the books says. Service due soon, then potentially remap time but I want to get the paint sorted first.

I'm reluctant to spend money on this one, not sure we've bonded

Still bullet proof.

So I'm fully aware this is hardly a project log, simply driven lol. Just had full service, all 100%.

Have done the rear brakes and front brakes next weekend along with two front new shocks. Nothing special just Pagid. I looked at genuine dampers but Mazda want £135 a corner compared with £60 for sachs.

All in all, can't fault the car. Next year will be a different matter entirely. Full respray and remap to name but a few.

Nah standard colour, and it won't cost me much.

Lol Tom it's not worth respraying anything, doesn't matter about value. I've sourced something quite extravagant for it, won't say much yet as it's not gone through but it'll involve 400bhp
