This worked on my Mk2 Ph2 manual tilt only sunroof, so I thought I'd share it for anyone with the same problem.
So, my sunroof was making a lot of noise (rattling) when closed..
I discovered by chance, following a complete strip down (also had a leak) that the 4x T20 torx srews (2 that hold the handle to the glass & the 2 that secure the front brackets), were loose.
Nipped them all up by about 1 and a half turns, and no more rattle..
Don't over tighten them or use a ratchet because you need to feel the feedback through a hand held socket driver or L shaped T20 torx tool.
If you do a big 'he-man' grip, you might risk the glass cracking when the wheather changes!
Don't know if this works on the ph1 but definately works on ph2.
Access to the 2 torx screws for the 'handle to glass' is easier with the sunroof open.
Disclaimer: If you crack you're sunroof, I'm not responsible! (very unlikely because there are rubber seals between the metal brackets and the glass).
Good luck! Steve
P.s. You will also notice a massive difference when you close the sunroof handle down.. It will firm & tensioned against the rubber seal.. not floppy like a floppy french floppy thing..
