A Pigeon flew into the side of my old kangoo on a B road, straight into the sliding side door handle causing the door to open! Luckily the runners were so clogged up it only opened a few inches. I dread to think what the road would have looked like if it had fully opened, never kept that van...
If it isn't an import there's many reasons why it could be sat about for ages. If it was a display model / cancelled order / dealer went bust / blew up while being driven off the boat on the rev limiter ;) it could be sat around for a long time before being registered.
Someone more knowledgeable will come along shortly I'm sure but I'd try speaking to Renault. I thought it was pretty common for them to sit around for a long time before being registered hence the handful of '06 plate 182s that are about.
because they were cheaper to buy new, but not by a great deal, google parallel import. Think they were a very slightly different spec too, different alarm system iirc.

may be stating the obvious but are there not adjusters that wind up and down each side under the bonnet near the lights, sure that one isn't wound fully up?
