Does the whine get louder when you accelerate ? My alternator went and that was the cause of the noise.... pretended I had a supercharger for a few months before the dash lights lit up like a Christmas tree and I came to a shuddering hault! lol

I think you have missed the point lol, its not good around town but very good imo on longer journeys .. I can get 40+ MPG quite easily on a run over 20 miles.

Just on the point of NCB - if you had 4 or more you will lose 3 for a claim with most companies :) I binned off my first 172 and lost 3 years NCB but still had 1, I'm back up to 4 now and insurance is around the 550 mark! First year after was a bit painful though.
