Chinese turbos are usually fine for low boost aplications, like the ED one it runs something pissy like 7psi, so theyre usually fine. Probably more disposable when you start running them at their boost limits though.
Also ED have been around doing their turbo conversions for donkeys, so i bet...
you should be able to take the plug out and shine a torch down into the cylinder to see if theres any valve remains in there, or any marks on the piston where it may have made contact with the plug, if your eyes arent that good you can get smartphone borescopes on ebay for like £10 that will do...
