How much does a water pump cost to replace/repair?

  Renault Clio
I've got a W reg, 1.4 petrol renault clio. I've been quoted 350 quid for the water pump to be replaced and labour. The mechanic said that it's an 8 hour job and its a big strip down on the car. I haven't had it done yet because i wanted to get some second opinions. Does this price sound fair? or will i be ripped off if i have it done? Thanks.

Speak to some other local garages ?!

Did you ask for a breakdown of the cost ? £150 might be the water pump and new belt and 8 hours labour (which I think is too long but I don't know) at £25 p/h.

Call Fred, Danny, Mick, and then call your local Renault dealer for a laugh.

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
I'm guessing it's an 8 valve engine, in which case, Pump is cambelt driven. Pump will be about £50, cambelt and tensioner is about £80 aux belt is about £12, and it's about 3-4 hours absoulte maximum

Who was that?

Rentech - they done my dephaser/cambelt also last year - unfortunately the pump started leaking 6months later - although its unlikely to fail in hindsight i wish i just got it all done first time round :p - reasonable pricing and seem good lads, would reccomend
