My new GTI-6 P1

Spotted this for sale a few weeks ago on 306gti6.com for not a lot of money and thought it'd be worth a look, being about 5 miles away from my parents house.
Turned out to be a bit of a bargain; it's been in the owners club for about 5 years and it's in pretty great condition for its age, obviously has a couple of tears in the seats but I think I'll be fitting at least a different, lower drivers seat anyway.
Fixed the boot lock last night, as the boot wouldn't even shut, let alone lock! And I fitted a second hand Alpine IDA-X100 which is pretty cool, if a bit chavvy.. Has yellow and black 'Lockwood' dials which I'm not too sure about either, but we'll see...
Externally I quite like the way it is tbh, perhaps some OEM yellow fogs, but that's about it! It has a Magnex catback, and a PiperX induction kit AFAIK, so I doubt I'll be touching the engine. The rear drivers side brake feels like it's stuck on slightly, but that might be because it's been sat still since August... we'll see.
Photo's (it's cold and miserable outside, so they're pretty crap!):

Truly awesome. I loved my diesel 306 and I would love to own a GTI-6 yours looks in really good condition it would look better with silver wheels though.

I remember my mum having a 306 XSI in that colour. Loved it, 2litre NA and my mum loved driving it. I also think the keypad immobilizer is cool as fcuk too.

Loved my 306 GTI-6 Ph 2 great cars .

Only bad points i heard was sucking up water if using an Indiction kit and tappy heads after a rebuild .

2.0 16v 167bhp claimed, 6 gears..
I'm a bit weary about the PiperX tbh! facing downward, quite low in the engine bay... Asking for trouble! I haven't got the original airbox though, so not much I can do.

2.0 and thats a lovely example, looks nice and standard.Rip in the drivers seat gives you a good excuse to buy some new chairs...

Looks tidy! Question. Did it have a standard headunit in it before you swapped it? If so, how did you get the bugger out?! Mine literally froze over the weekend so I need to get it out but its one of those flush with the rest of the fascia jobbies and im stumped!

Not a clue! Mine came with a big hole where the radio should have been :( lol

this looks helpful though? http://www.306gti6.com/forum/showthread.php?id=137933

Awesome Joey! Got a soft spot for these.
Get an aqua shield for the PiperX?

Ohh what's one of those?

Lol glad you liked it! Dare says yours should be a tad quicker, tad lighter the phase 1, as light as a Rallye

I've heard the P1's are slightly quicker... Not sure I believe it myself ;)

Looks quick. I would have thought they've got to be 1*2 quick..

Seen some footage of a 306 & 182 on track, the 182 pulls slightly on the straights, 306 caught up under braking and round corners. But that could all be down to the drivers tbh!

I had a mk1 172 which was defo quicker off the line and quicker 0-60, but in gear GTI-6 pulls much better, top end its much quicker, close ratio box helps with that though.

They have a very long first gear by the looks of things. 0-60 is balls anyway tbh! Nobody ever does that, unless you're traffic light drag racing FFS
Overtaking power is much more useful

Superb purchase Joey, how weird does it feel in comparison to the 106. Really loving that.

The guy at work is going to have a fit, he loves old Peugoets. He usd to work on them when they were new.

Haha, old Peugeots are brilliant tbh!
Everything feels a Lot heavier than the 106, steering has a lot more weight, clutch is quite heavy. Brakes are much sharper and more responsive, and the gearbox feels like a massive improvement on the 106's 5spd. I'm not sure how different it's going to feel on a twisty B-road, but it does feel that bit bigger and heavier so far.

The shield goes over the filter part of the induction kit. It doesnt make it water resistant but it does help.
A lot of Type R owners use them on the AEM kits as they hang very low.

Love that Joey...You have good taste in motors. Perfect way to get back on track after your bad luck with the MX5.

Fancy owning one of these myself at some point, will be interested to hear how you find it compared to the 106.

Alway's had a soft spot for these. Had a tussle with one down some country lanes when i first got my 182 and there was absolutely nothing in it.

Looks like a tidy example as well mate.

I actually think they're quite a handsome car, there's a very distinctive look about it. Nice purchase!

Makes me want want my 1.8 meridian ph2 back. I could probably rebuild it with the amount of bits I have in my garage lol
