I dont want to turn this into another iphone comparison thread. So contracts up on the 20th and i cant justify the costs the iphone5 will bring with it. And yes i know no one knows what they are yet but im guessing £40 ish contract and buy the phone. Anyway so with that out of the equation what are my choices? Top of the pile so far is the galaxy s2, g/f has one and its great, althugh a tad big i would prob get used to it. Any other phones that people have bought that are or have been in a similar position to me?

I like the g/f's s2 but i just find it too big. Is the sensation smaller?

I can upgrade my phone now, I'm going for the GS2 in white. Great phone which'll do everything I want. Knickers to the iPhone.

You dont have to upgrade on the 20th, why not just drop onto a cheap rolling 30 day contract until you see a phone you really want?

Why? It is!

Your right, hes wrong lol,

Have the phone over a year now, only had one major problem but Htc gave me a new handset in the same week, since then no problems atall, camera is fantastic better than the iphone(dont say its not), compared the iphone4 to this and this is on top, Hd video recording is preety cool, only downfall is lack of good apps, some apps get released on the app store but not on the android which is crap,

agreed, hence why I got a Sensation a couple of weeks ago, the GS2 feels cheap in your hand

No phone matches the iPhone. Don't believe me, actually ask people who know what they are talking about.

What, like the fact that I can view any site with flash on it? And watch movies on my nice QHD 4.2" screen? Stop trying to desperately be in the with the "Cool Apple Gang". It's pathetic.

Anyway, if you don't want an iPhone (which you may do, in which case go for it) I would suggest a Galaxy S2 or a HTC Sensation as they are leading the pack the moment. Want something a bit different? Try the HTC Evo 3D.

If you want to charge your phone every 10 hours then get that .. otherwise hold off. Most of the new android phones are all of a similar spec go to a shop and try a few.

The ability to play Adobe Flash on your phone is a moot point. It's not properly comparable with desktop Flash. It rapes the s**t out your battery. It also adds nothing to the smartphone web browsing experience. If you're trying to replicate the desktop web browsing experience on a smartphone, you fail.

Also the iPhone 4 screen is the best screensize and resolution is the best currently available.

iOS, unlike Android does use a stupid Java Virtual Machine to run all of it's code. Apps for iOS are properly Darwin (Apple's own version of Unix) native. Hence why even little things like scrolling is smoother on iOS, never mind other performance.

The camera on the iPhone 4 is way above par. The 720p recording is the best you can currently get on a smartphone (smartphone, not feature phone). If you're buying a phone for the quality of the camera you know nothing about photography. The size of the sensors on phones are tiny, you will take better pictures on a £40 point and shoot camera. I own a DSLR and a decent point and shoot. My girlfriend has a high spec Panasonic superzoom/bridge camera. Between us we pretty much always have a camera on us when we need one. And in pinch the iPhone 4 one us more than good enough, especially in HDR mode.

iOS5 betas so far show that Android, WM7 and BlackBerry are antiquated.

I typed all this on my iPhone, so excuse any spelling or grammar errors.

I knew this would turn into a iphone arguement lol. Im looking for a 'different' choice in phone

I never understand the need to be different for the sake of it, compromising your choice in the process.

It's different to rub s**t in your hair instead of shampoo, why don't you do that too?

Its not that i want to be different and compromise my choice in the process, i just wanted to look at other options rather than go down the expected route.

I think what Revels is saying is don't just say I don't want an iPhone because that's what most peopls say are that's "the expected route".

iPhone 4 will be cheaper if you're not that fussed (and it appears you're not by picking and inferior handset).

Wow. You have never tried any other phone have you. Flash does add to the experience if you browse sites with flash on them, and lots of us do. Regardless of whether the coding is crap and it rapes battery.

Cameras - The iP4 has an excellent phone camera which is amongst the best out there, the fact my sensation "has" 3 more megapixels means nothing because they both produce roughly the same quality picture. The Sensation also "does" 1080P movies but I haven't put one on screen to pixel peep, my thoughts are that it's probably no better than iP4's 720 movies which are great.

"the iPhone has the best screensize". LOL. So if the iP5 has a bigger screen it will be a downgrade?! Let's be honest if it does you will rave about it. Saying it has the best screensize is silly.

I never understand the need to be different for the sake of it, compromising your choice in the process.

I've owned several Android phones as my 2nd phone. I have an old HTC Hero sat in my draw at work for example. And I've used plenty of newer ones. They are mostly overly complicated, slow and cack.

(Also part of my job is to make sure new phones aren't s**tty to give to senior NHS managers/nurses)

Lol. I was just getting an idea of what other options there are. Ive got a HTC Wildfire which is okay ish but i dont even use half the stuff on there. I just want something easy to use and quick (use the internet alot when im at home). As my knowledge of computers/phones and routers(as of last night) is crap at the best of times. So i just want something simple to use. I know whats going to happen, iphone 5/4s comes out and will prob end up going for that lol

Get an iPhone, as AK says they are the easiest phone to use. My mum and dad have them and they are absolute technophobes!
