Car turns over but won't start ?

  ITB 428 Ph1
Hi

My 172 sport has sat still for around a month and a week or so, I went to start it and it turns over but will not start. The fuel is at one bar and was put in around 2 months ago. It's had a full service and was no problem up until now ? Any ideas would be appreciated ?

That may be the relays you can hear. In the engine bay, try swapping the black tall thin relays around to see if the pump primes.... I will be doing that this evening on mine.

That will be my next step, heard it's a pain to get to. Also test the clip on the fuel pump end to see if you are getting 12V coz it may be a fuel pump problem.

Evil giraffe did you solve your problem in the end, my cars only covered 42k but spent most of it's time still, I'm going to buy some fuel incase mines gone funny, I think it's more fuel pump related unfortunately ???????

Yeah he sorted it by changing the 3 relays he mentioned. 1 was the fuel relay and the other 2 got done because they were cheap and look corroded as well.

Let's hope both our cars start after replacing these relays. Order them from RS using the part code as it's only £2.90 each compared with £14 or so it says on here from Renault :S

Okay I've put 5l of fuel in and won't start, I've now been swapping round the 3 relays and i think one may be f**ked , I got what I think was the pump to prime but then my cars flat nOw from all the attempts to start it. I will order the relays as posted and see what happens, what's that yellow square in the fuse box next to the relays ?

Not sure what the yellow relay is for mate

TERRY172 have you ordered your relays yet ?

I have not mate because after getting the breakdown guy to have a look we have found the problem. Take a look at my thread mate last post tonight http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?596063-Car-will-refuse-to-start hope it helps you out mate

Okay I have removed the plug from the fuel pump and tested the voltage with the ignition on, I only got 300mv DC, therefore I believe my fault to be one of the relays that's not working correctly, hopefully when my new ones arrive, and I've fitted them, my car will kick into life !

The fact you are getting a low voltage would suggest the relay is not working properly. Hope the new ones sort your problem mate

Cheerz buddy, will let you know how I get on

Just thought did you swap the relays over and left them swapped over or did you put them back in original places? If you left them in the swapped places then it might not be the relay due to you testing another one.....but we won't rule that out yet.
Try running a 12v feed directly to the pump connection to see if it primes and if it does then try and start the car. If the car starts and then dies when the 12v feed is taken away then you know it's definitely a fuel circuit issue + you know you are getting spark as well

Yes I did mate, just so happy it was a quick fix !

Great thread! My clio phase 2 has started to be hard to start recently. Pump seems to be priming but it has been a pain especially if the car is parked on a hill with the rear facing downwards.

Before I ordered a new crank position senson I found this thread. Swapped the relays around and it started first go. Hopefully this was it!

Cheers
