R888's in September......

  Not a 320d
Wise idea? I need new tyres soon i think. Student loan comes September with any luck, and i want good ones which actually grip. I want R888's, but im wondering if its a bad idea to keep them on over winter.

Should i buy something else? And what, i need 195/50/R16 tyres. Im struggling to find good tyres which i know about in this size.

i lasted through winter with them fine, snow was hilarious!

I am worried about this lol, but is it a bad idea?

Tempted by Contisport2's in the link, I THINK Proxies are good, but are the ones in the link allreet ???

Money isnt n issue really, and i want good tyres.

Are you tracking the car bit pointless if not? Another thing is you should be spending your student loan on copious amounts of alcohol not bloody tyres!

lol at student loan for r888s

tbh. if u really want them and want to use the loan then buy it with the last installment in april etc. set you up nicely for summer. Only if your tracking tho.

if you want a good tyre then get it for the correct condition

Reccomendations???

Id like R888's but im beginning to think its pointless now.Maybe in summer.

summer yes, not bad in the wet either actually, just have to know what you're doing

i wouldn't suggest it for a billy amateur

Im no Jenson Button, but im no "Billy A" as you put it :)

Ive had plenty of practice on Forza (Joke)

How do ContiSport2's work out then, are they good, i know PE2's are great, supposed to be the one in the middle, great all rounder kinda thing, but they dont do them in a size i want. What about the Proxies (T1 R)?

Pe2's mate

Not available in my size and i dont want to change, not even to 195 45.

Under read by 10% on the speedo apparantly. Should I?

So im going 40mph on the speedo, but my actual speed is what, like 36?

They wear quick i found, even on the road, so wouldn't last very long at all. And if you have used the conti's up in a year then the toyo's probably wont last half as long. Depends how often you get your student loan lol

I have used mine on the road in torrential rain and they were fine, even swerved out of the way of another car cutting me up on the mway in that rain and they kept grip.

If you aint tracking it don't bother, You are not allowed and will not be able to go quick enough on the road with them properly, hit a puddle of standing water and you'll be in a hedgeback.I run 888's all year, but on a proper track car, and I have another so when its pissing wet and snowing I can use that, silly idea, students I s**t em.

get some t1r's, conti sports wont last long if those rock hard primacys have lasted 6 months.

these are pretty good tyres too...http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/rshop...._pro_Seite=15&Transport=P&dsco=110&sowigan=So

if you dont do track days then r888 is a waste of coin, spend the change you will get on brakes ;-)

You have PM. Answer it :) Had the Car 9 months, and theres plenty left, just getting towards the point where i need to start think about it. Id Est 4-5 mm left.

Oh HI. I wont then, seems a common response so far ill take the advice.

Are F1's actually good?? They were on my list too.

F1's

Contisport 2

TR 1

Im not bothered about how long they last either really. My car is short of 9000 miles, i do about 12000 a year i think.

Hankook rs2's. Far better for road use, and decent on track. Last far longer as well.

  Nimbus R26r
Im running mine at the moment, for road use I wouldn't bother, wear rate is high and they are extremely noisy, not bad in the wet just standing water they struggle to clear.

Do they do yokohama ad08s in your size? These are very impressive can almost if not match the r888s grip and can deal with wet weather well and last ages.

  Not a 320d
No i dont think so.

So what would you guys get then. If price and wear isnt an issue, but the noise a set of R888's will make is. What should i go for.

TR1's
Contisport2's
Contisport1's
Eagle F1's

And WHY on earth are Premium contacts more expensive than Sport contacts. And why are my s**t primacy tyres £130 a piece.

  Westy. MX5
T1R's because they are a good compromise between track tyres and road tyres. Grip well in the dry and wet and about £60 each fitted. Wear wise better than track tyres but worse than Contisports or other premium tyres.

Tr1's grip better than Conti's then ?

Rofl. How exactly are they between a road tyre and a track tyre? They are nothing of the sort. They are a road tyre, that's pish in the wet.
Try hankook rs2's. Brilliant, and actually a road suitable semi track tyre. T1r's would be pretty much my last choice as a tyre. Rather conti's, f1's, v12 evo's, pirelli's.

The conti sports came out on top in evo for the best of both worlds.

Yes, but that test was utter b****cks. Carried out at conti's test track, on a car the tyres were specifically designed for!! And conveniently left the Goodyear f1 out of the test. Load of shite.

  Not a 320d
Eesh, its great having all the info from you guys, but theres a lot of different opinions in here.

Ill have a skeg at these Hankook RS2's Brown Bear.

I find T1r's adequate in the wet, haven't tried Hankooks yet. I'm just suggesting an all rounder for the lad that doesn't cost the Earth and he doesn't track it, he is a student.

Im a student yer, at Uni. I have a 20 hr a week part time job, plenty of beer money for me to spend. I get the full grant and Loan because ive worked for the past 5 years too. £1600 3 times a year, and £700 from grants elsewhere. Seriously, I have a blatant disregrd for money and would be happy spending £150 on a single tyre. Im just limited because i have 195/50/16 wheels and dont want to get a 45 profile. I live at home too so ive got money to play with.

I MAY track it at Cadwell neat year, Ive seen a Standard GT belt it round the track at the RS track day and i was pretty impressed, so i might start with a few evening sessions to get some pointers. Even if i dont, i want a decent road tyre, the Pilot Primacys feel very hard and want something soft.

Yep, Camskill is good on price. Others are Black Circles, My Tyres, Top Gear, Earl Motorsport, Tyre Traders and your local Tyre Shop try a bit of haggling. Always get a quote for fully fitted, if you ask for supply only and have them fitted locally you'll be paying an extra circa £10 per corner.

  Not a 320d
I think ill give the TR1's a miss, might try them if i dont like the contis.

Are 3's better than 2's

I can get 195.50.16 in CS2's and 195.45.16 in CS3's.

  Mini Cooper S
3's are what the 197/200 uses. I wouldn't bother with the 2's. If it was a choice between T1R's or Conti's, I'd go for the Toyos. Or the Eagle F1's I found ;)

The problem is Ciotoby, you don't know how each tyre feels yet until you try them. If you didn't like the existing ones then change brands of course. Everyone has their own opinion of tyres and is very personal on likes and dislikes. Your own experiences are the most important and you have a few years yet to find out whats good for you.

True very true. Been thinking this. BUT you guys have given me a few tyres to think about. Eagle F1's or TR1's are on my want list right now, id go with CS3' (195,45,16) but i dont want the 10% under read thing, would really piss me off.

17" wheels with 45profiles would correct the speedo readings but oh dear! more money required for new wheels. You can't win mate.
