Squealing Noise on Cold Start

  PH1 172 Sport
When the cars cold and I start the engine I get a squeal for about 1-2 immediately as it fires up.

It only does it when the engine is cold. Both belts and the power steering pump were done in October. It's got power steering fluid etc and drives perfectly fine.

Could this just be moisture on the aux belt causing it to slip slightly in the morning or something like the starter motor?

Might need tightening, with it being a new belt. I've had this before on a different Clio.

Aux belt. Did you have the tensioner replaced, or just the belt?

If just the belt I'd put money on the tensioner being seized and not doing its job properly.

Tensioner does the tightening if a non cup - manual tightening if it was a cup.

Mine does this usually when it has been raining, I would not worry. The amount of components moving around we should all be thankfull that there is not more noise.

You should have heard my old Pug 405, it had a nasty knocking noise when cold from the engine (petrol), but it was my grandads old car and he said it started happening after 13k miles. I sold it on with 78k and it passed emissions fine and did 37mpg. So it showed the engine was in good health.

Higgy.

Mine does the same after it's been stood over night and when I fire it up for the 1st time. It's only started doing it since the cold damp weather has hit us so I'm inclined to think it's down to what you've mentioned.

Had everything done. Fred did the work so I know no shortcuts were taken and you know what hes like about making sure the full kit is used!

That sounds like a bad idea to me

why?
its not going to harm the belt or stop anything from working as it is under so much tension.
i have been doing this for years on all my cars.
i used to do it when servicing cars when i worked for brunel ford.

Mine has had an annoying squeel recently, for the first 10-15 mins of driving or so. I thought it was the box at first, as it only seemed to do it when pulling away, but it does it on idle and when being revved now.

I dont have an AUX setup like normal, just alternator/waterpump. The waterpump was replaced 10k ago too, although I think it has to be the waterpump bearing, or a cambelt idler/tensioner thats causing it..

Same happening on my Ph1.

Fred replaced the full Aux kit and PAS pump a month or so ago. Water pump was replaced a few thousand miles previously to that and the battery is holding good charge, even after it's stood over night. As above it first started when the damp weather started and so I'm tempted to think that could be a factor along with the lack of arch liner on O/S.

Either way it's f**king annoying as f**k, but thankfully f**ks off after 5-10 minutes of driving.

Mine's doing this, haven't had my belts replaced yet. They're not due till may but think I'll get them done in jan/feb.

Could it be a pulley making the noise ?

Bottom pulley possibly. Damp in the bearing?

As you can tell from my ramblings this is a highly technical diagnosis lol.

weird one, it had new everything bar the PAS pump (2nd hand)

Definately odd. Doesn't do it every morning either only when its cold or damp. May have exagerated how long it does it for as well as its probably only half a second straight after the car fires.

My cup started doing this about a month or so after a cam and aux change because the aux belt on the cup is manual tightening it had came slightly slack, went back and got it tightened back up and its not squealing anymore.
