A few dc5 mods last weekend

  Golf GT TDI, IS220d
A few of you might know that i sold my 182 in april and bought my DC5 in may, it was standard except for Ohlin's coilies. I fitted an ITG drop in filter and a Mugen front strut brace straight away. Last weekend me and a mate fitted a few more bits, i supose its a bit of a project but im unsure how far it will go!

This is a pic of all the bits, an RBC inlet manifold with PTFE Hondata gasket, an SFS silicone hose, Mugen N1 ecu, and a Spoon 4-2 and 2-1 (decat) manifold. Also some new neoform wipers from opie oils as for some reason the ones fitted to mine were tiny!

Next up is to fit the Spoon Mani as we didn't have time, new front discs arrived the other day, just oem Honda discs for the brembo's but i've got some Z Pads from Dixcel's and some braided lines on order. Hopefully get a RR done soon too

Nice work!!! I hope it has a spoon system on it? Mate has one and it sounds mint!!!

No its got a standard system steve, might get something in the future but i dont want it to be too loud i'll wait and see what it's like with the spoon mani 1st. Spoon systems are supose to be really loud iirc

Does it feel any difference fella? I would love a DC5 :( Awesome :D

Yeah feels alot quicker, Vtec is now at 5300rpm instead of 5800rm and the limit is up to 9k, should hopefully be pushing 240-245bhp with the spoon mani fitted :D

This is an old pic before i had it raised 20mm, the b pipe kept scapping coming out of my drive and on speedbumps

The car? It was a bit of a bargin really, just under £11k with 25k on the clock. I saw one go for £12k the other day, same age with 35k on it

Probably means the parts.

Did you not get it rolling roaded before spending all the time/cash on modifications?

Awesome car mate.

Can I ask what's the crack with the Mugen N1 ECU?

I remember an old friend telling me his CRX had a Spoon ecu but never paid attention to know what difference they made.

Do they work in the same way as a remap only you're changing the whole unit?

it will be a standard ecu with a new chip in it that mugen put a map on for fueling...

The US Honda boys would s**t a brick if they saw you with the bonnet up fitting stuff without cleaning up the bay too. Could have at least cleaned up the cam cover ;)

Cool. What you got latex gloves on for, ya big girl ;)

Hahaha that was my mate, he IS a big girl!

No mate i never got chance, 217bhp standard and wouldn't really expect that to change alot before the mods, either way i would have done the mods

You can't remap them, they're designed by mugen for breathing mods, alot cheaper than buying a kpro as you dont need to map it everytime you change something

lol thats what i was thinking lol. still its an awesome car, always wanted one of these but high insurance just put me off.

Yeah i was thinking about it but it will have to wait till i get back, that why i wasnt gonna spend ages cleaning that one. There's a cuy on the ctr forum that does good cam covers so i might get one off hime, not sure on colour though. I keep thinking blu but maybe that will be too much blue then

Latex gloves are full of win!!!!! Stop being a pussy gaz and get it spooned up!!!!

Haha don't tempt me!

When you home dude? you need to be popping over ;)

I know mate i've been meaning to pop round for ages, i just had a week at home but didnt stop for the whole week i was so busy! I need my brakes and lines doing so i might pop round for you to do them if ya fancy it? I was gonna do them myself but i if i'm calling round i might aswell get the pro's on the case! (plus time wise it makes sense)

Love dc5s, theres a white one on white alloys round here, looks amazing.

I'm loving the easiness of bolting on japanese parts. Everythings so much cheaper and simpler to do :dapprove:

there's alot of mods availiable and its alot easier to get more horses out of the K20 than it was with my 182 but its not cheap. For example that ecu costs over £1000 new, you can't just remap like you can with the clio ecu's. The exchange rates have gone so bad betwen the yen and gbp that it was cost about £900 for a GruppeM induction kit where it cost about £450 not so long ago

The DC5's looking good Gaz! Did you ever have the 182 on a rolling road by any chance? I keep getting beaten badly by diesels, want to make sure it's putting out the correct power :)

Cheers Rob! No mate i never did, getting beat by diesels isnt good although there are some seriously quick ones out these days. Might be worth getting it on the RR to check if all is well

A £300 re-map to most TDI's makes them very hard to catch on a straight, i doubt the cars at fault. Will have them in the twistys :p

Good mods there mate, saw your thread on itr-dc5. Im not sure you'll make the stated bhp figures though, they very rarely make 217 standard.

As the turk says, get that bay cleaned.

Have you contacted that Aussie GM supplier, think you may be able to get one a little cheaper than £900.

  Golf GT TDI, IS220d
Im not really looking to buy one at the minute tbh just saying they're expensive, 700 or 900 either of them i wouldn't be paying, if a 2nd hand one comes up i could be interested. I was looking at the thread on dc5 forum where ppl state there figures, i think between 230-240bhp when my spoon manifold is fitted is pretty realistic tbh, mate of mine has a mugen n1 with similar mods but with amuse exhaust and gruppem running over 250bhp, i think the n1's are underated.

As i said before i'm not at home often so when im back i've got a list of jobs as long as my arm so cleaning my engine comes pretty low on that list, i'll get round to it at some point though

Yeah fair enough mate.

I was just commenting from what ive experienced, but its all about how it drives and if your happy with the 'increases' then thats what matters.

I had my teg on the rollers with RBC, GM and twinloop catback - it made 225bhp. On the same roller 6 months later with the above mods and Spoon 4-2-1 mani, decat and Kpro it made 220bhp :S

  Golf GT TDI, IS220d
bloody hell whats going on there then? Twinloops are supose to be quite restirctive bout surely you should be seeing alot more than that! who mapped your kpro for you? There's lot in that power thread that say they have about 250bhp with all them mods :S

yeah i don't want to get too hung up on figures really, it does feel alot better and the lower vtec and higher limit really suite the engine i feel :)

To be fair most cars were making low power that day, a teg with the same mods as me with cams and a less restrictive exhaust only made 225 :S

Artech mapped the car (pretty highly regarded, they mapped Dixons DC2 race car) and the map is spot on. Mine did make quite a bit more the day it was mapped on a different roller. Guess it just shows figures dont really matter that much, it drives well.

I like the fact you dont have to keep remapping with the mugen, tbh id quite like to exchange my twinloop for something less restrictive but then you got £250 every time you change anything.

Interested to see what you make anyway :D

haha yeah might be worth a check up anyway, maybe losing compresion through exhaust still??

;)

Shhhh... I've been driving Steve mad with my blowing exhaust, he said it's never been right on this car. LOL I been to birchdown twice with it :p
