Clio 197 36k service... WTF!!

I have just been quoted £400 for the service and then £270 for the aux belt. Er... WTF?

Told them that was ludicrous... So he was ever so kind and said he would do it all for £600.

Surely this is well overpriced? Anyone from Renault advise on this or members who've had a 197 36k service?

Rang another dealer who quoted 315.65 for 36k service. They said the aux belt didn't changing...

The service book says it doesn't changing until 72k...

From what I have read on this forum everyone says the aux is to be changed at 36k...

I rang Renault uk who said it was needed at 4 years and then changed his mind to 5 years or 72k...

Jesus wept... Are we right or Renault uk right? I am sure we are right with 36k but someone needs to clarify this...

I work for Renault aftersales, and according to Renault the aux belt doesn't need changing till 72k on a 197.
I have just looked up a 36k on a 197 and it comes to £380 INC parts labour and vat.

What actually needs doing at 36k then?

Also Alex, any chance of looking up what a 1st service SHOULD cost.

Just make sure they use genuine parts, I know everyone says they do but most don't. That because most have a much lower labour rate and charge less for the oil, the spark plugs though are £67 + vat!!

Plugs deffo every 36k, thats what bumps up the price, check the book boys!!! Renault plugs are like £15 each, but they are ngk's....... so you're paying for the box. I got my belt /tentioner done at 36k. Piece of mind and all that ;)

LOL. I went online to see what the renault website says. basically not a lot.

I went to ''book'' a 36k service at another renault garage in Diss and they quoted £280 ish. So Rawlinson in BSE are ripping the arse out of it at £400...

From all I have read it appears the aux belt isn't due until 5 years or 72k... i'll speka to Diss tomorrow and see what they say about it all.

Anyone know what the Birchwood price is?

When I had my 172 i decided to trade it in for a Trophy instead of paying for the 36k service. I got crazy quotes too, I was a bit stupid back then and just went to main dealers.

i've been lucky as i've serviced my 182/197 at a small renault minute and they have been spot on and good value compared.

Rawlinson would be so much easier for work but i'll go to Diss or something tbh due to the price. £280 for the 36k sounds fine to me.

Right here is the definitive answer from Renault UK. This is what should be done.

aux belt at 5 years or 72k for a 197

Renault are f**king clowns. The dealer who did my 36k service (182) said the aux belt didn't need changing, and then forgot that the pollen filter needed changing. They also used the wrong oil. I did my 48k service myself. f**k Renault - my gran knows more about my car than they do, and she's been dead 20 years.
