coolant hoses

Anybody seen a guide for fitting them, Mainly need to know how to drain/bleed the system and what amount/type of coolant to replace for a 172 cup as i am getting some new hoses soon.

Tried searching in the guides area but no luck an sorry if this is in the wrong area

Get a basin in under the car to get the dribbling from the hoses and catch
whatever comes out of the coolant tank with a 2litre coke bottle (cut in half) or something like that.

Some of the hoses can be a bit awkward to get off/out so have fun! lol

So they'll only be stuff comes out of the radiator/hoses and the coolant tank, what bout the engine? sorry bit of a newb at these things.
am i right in thinkin that its 7 litres or so to fill?

Believe its a 7 Litres of Cat D Green Coolant for RS Clios..... Should/Will only be Water abd Coolant that will come out so you will need something biogger than a Coke Bottle to catch it with.

Is there a drain plug on the bottom of the radiator, or jus pull the pipe off and hope for the best?

If you're changing the hoses it might be best to change to coolant at the same time, it's not expensive from the dealers, about £21 for 5 litres

When i changed the pipes i just undid the lowest pipe on the radiator first and let it drain out of there. As long as you get some pipe plyers to undo the clips on the hoses its not a hard job to do. I had never done it before and didn't really struggle at any point. The hoses on the bulk head you just squeese and pull them off. I reccomend using jubilee clips when refitting as it makes life so much easier. When refilling the system there is a bleed valve on the thermostat undo this and fill till it constantly pores out of there, if you do this there should be no air blocks in the system. fasten the bleed valve and run the engine make sure that the heaters start to blow hot air when the engines upto temperature if they don't you still have an air lock in the system so you'll have to undo the bleed valve and let it run through a bit more. once the heaters are working and nothing is leaking just top the header tank up to the correct point.

I put 2 old washing up bowls under the car (had to heighten it a bit with a jack). Then undone the lower rad hose and let it all pour out. Then remove all the other hoses, make sure youve got some decent pliers/mole grips to remove the old retaining clips. Watch the top pipes around the thermostat as you dont want coolant leaking onto and getting into your gearbox. Open the bleed screw completly on the thermostat and put a old towel under it. Fit the new pipes ensuring that suitable sized jubilee or mikalor clips are used.

On the heater matrix that goes into the bulkhead there are 2 pipes, on the 172mk1 they have metal push type connectors, im not sure if the later 172s have these. you will have to remove the connector bits off the pipes by using a decent grip puller or getting clever with a dremel. Once these are removed the new pipes will easily slide over the pipes and can be clipped on.

Once its all sealed and tigtened pour coolant into the bottle slowly, keep watching the open bleed screw. After bubbles/spitting and then constant coolant flows out the screw close it and continue to fill the bottle to the max mark.

Now go for a drive to test for any leaks and top up the bottle if needed.

You shouldnt run into too many problems, its fairly straight forward. the only problem I had was clearing up the mess on my garage floor afterwards!!

lol @ fred, my puller was too big to fit down there to get them off so I hacked them off.

just take all the hoses off doesnt matter what order high tension clips are advised and they look awesome when there on
