172/182 Turbo Conversion Kit - £2600

  Lionel Richie
fast ford - take the reyland lot, honnestly their cars arent that quick IMO, the old spec escort (600 odd bhp) was lapping 1min 30 odd round donnignton yet everyone worshipped that car!

i've seen std cups go round quicker than that!
Yeah I'm mean 2.8 secs to 60mph and 194.7mph top end isn't really that quick...

in a straight line yes, round a track it was going round in the same time as a clio cup road car!

It seems ludaprix aint satisfied with his cam conversion lol .How could he be? The discernible gain from that conversion, although noticeable wont be mind blowing. I'd say to him, go for the balls out foxon jobbie, if he has the nerve. Your single body will then be redundant, but Andy will take that in account in the final reckoning. lol

not really mate, im very satisfied with it but am getting used to the power now. i wanted to keep my air con so went for the single body. im jus currently contemplating the idea of adding to what i have. i'd rather not have itb's still jus because i want my a/c, this turbo kit seems ideal as you still get to keep the a/c etc.

you can have aircon and bodies

yeah but what's the point? spend a load more on a body conversion only to have shorter trumpets that make a load less power... almost identical power to single body. pointless.

only other possible way around it would involve a lot of fabrication and money, again, pointless imo

Franx, thanks for your quick review. How much quicker did it feel? I'm assuming because it's a smaller turbo on low boost that there's no real lag with it?

Oh and btw, the cup is 80-90kg lighter, not 150kg :)

so if something was going to go wrong, what would it be??

i mean once the turbo is fitting and running???

Doesn't seem realistic. One can go faster than that with much less money. For instance:

0-100: 12,1 sec.

Yep, small turbo. It's almost instantly there, almost instant power i'd say. But you know any turbo takes time to give power, so does this one. The exhaust has to get it going so first you hit the throttle and little after it starts to spinnnn

mind you, they set it up with a completely standard exhaust, cat and all, this has to be restrictive as hell but still huge power gains. (220 hP!?)

I'd say it does 0-60 in about 5,5sec or so ? take off the 17inch wheels and there you go, even more smile on the face i'd think.
it pulled away from a scooby in 5-th gear on the ring, and it was a modded scooby with a lot of NM !

My experience , it feels like a kart.. a lot of fun to drive.

i'm putting my car on a weighing-bridge tommorow because now i'm curious. My car's an import so it had to be tested here in Holland to get it registered. The guy who sold me told me it weighed at 916kg ?? (here my car is called RS Ragnotti, i think it's the same as the Cup)
Does the cup have the crappy chairs (no leather/alcantra ? light weight?) Also no engine bay -isolation, no esp, no airco, lighter windshield/windows, no backscreen/window wiper, no side airbags ?

Could just buy a 200sx! ;)

Powers at the right wheels too ;)

This is/ could be endless discussion hahahaha

plenty of nice cars to buy, definately ! This is about making something special that no-one else has... and leaving other cars behind that just simply wo'nt/can't believe what's happening to them when going for it . I like the way the Cup, on good suspension, handles like a kart when it's fast, not many cars out there where you get this feeling.
It's one of the "hottest hatches" around !

Seems to be lots of people with there own oppinions. I am saving every penny i have for this kit. Would like to no what the turbo is cable of in terms or PSI for future upgrading?

  EK9 + Mfactory gearing..
Seems like a great value kit for a realistic price, tired of listening to those who bleat on about non existent clutch/gearbox issues, 220bhp in the RS is perfect for the road.

This is a low pressure system, designed NOT to raise the pressure , upgrading would be exhaust i would say.

Once upgrading you'll have to start on engine internals, making you spend loads...

This is a low cost fast little clio-mod

Agree

Once you start moving into big boost then your going to have to a lot of upgrades (internals & ecu not to mention clutch & brakes) and the costs will spiral.

7psi using a nice, small turbo with little intertia/lag sounds like it'll deliver a nice, driveable setup.

  182 ff with cup pack's
well im saving all ready dint have any bacon with my breakfrast this morning that saved me 12p should have enuff by 2012 lol

  RS RIP
maybe stupid question, but hos did the dumpvalve sounded?

Inside you could hear something of a discharge, but no pssj or anything. Have'nt had the chance to hear it from the outside..
I'm not too crazy about it, would want a quiet one.. Fast one in disguise !

  172 cup
why bother the 172/182 gearbox is fragile enough without the massive torque from a turbo im scared to get mine chipped cos of how s**t the box is and ive got 135 quids worth of top spec gearbox oil used by clio cup teams

RS Ragnotti = 172 Cup

172 Cup = 990kg
172 = 1070kg

Something like that.

Again thanks for the update.
