As some more astute CS member may have noticed in the General Media section I have a JDM cars to Canada thread on the go.

http://www.cliosport.net/threads/jdm-imports-canada.799503/

In here I will keep the Ph1 stuff up to date. This 2001 Ph1 172 was purchased from auction in Japan, below are some details.

This was the video I had of the car before bidding at auction in Japan:

This was the auction sheet and pictures from the auction house:

The car is now back at a storage yard in Japan where it get cleaned up and prepped for shipping. I am taking delivery of this car to Canada in May, this is to avoid the winter conditions.

Some photos from the yard:

I have a shopping list for when the car arrives and will update things as the process moves along.

Very nice, but a shame about the aftermarket gearknob. Lol
Does look a very clean example, congrats.
I always thought jdm cars were right hand drive, so is it strange that it's lhd?

For Japan, in 2003 onwards most European stuff was RHD and pre 2003 Euro stuff was LHD as a rule of thumb.
Crazy man! Fair play, looks very nice.
thanks
Isn't that the standard gear knob?
It is standard yes. Mark sees loads of cars but not many Renaults so he does his best, which for me is more than perfect.

Looks great, bet you can't wait to get it on Canadian soil! What is part's availability like over there?

Love your commitment to having one imported!

Is it iceberg? Looks bluey in a few photos!

Haha thanks, I think they are going to be going up in value so there is some method to the madness.

I've been asking myself the same question; I don't think it's iceberg, but i'm not 100% sure. Will be a nice surprise when it arrives!

I reckon it is mate! Definitely looks it in more of the photos than not!

When is it due?

I think I will take delivery end of April or beginning of May. It's -20 here at the moment and snowy, salty roads, so i'll wait till winter has passed!

Thanks! There are zero parts here, I will get them all shipped from the UK, for France.
I look forward to seeing what happens with this!

Was/Is it cost effective doing it this way?
The LHD market is slightly elevated, have a look at the French used car websites, so for the UK no it's not really a great option. But for the LHD market you can make the numbers work. The main joy of getting cars from Japan is the lack of rust and weathering on the cars.

The VIN number is in the auction sheet link in the first post, if some could run that and tell me the colour of the car that would be greatly appreciated.

Im really surprised its badged as a Clio? Thought they were badged as Lutecia in Japan due to Honda having some tie to the word Clio?

Looks great but should have given me a shout and bought a RHD UK car. I'd have shipped it out to you.

You are correct, to be honest the only thing i can think of is that it was imported privately and not directly through Renault

I wanted LHD being in Canada.

Definitely iceberg that. Same as my old one.

Also, thats the standard gear knob, not a aftermarket one. The sticker for the gears belong on the bottom inside of the windscreen though.

What's your plans Elliott? Did you miss your exclusive too much? They always come back you know

@Dr Jekyll - Howdy sir! Yeah standard gear knob, just a mistake from Mark.
Plans are B14's (similar ride height to yours in the pic), ktec stealth supersport (keeping the cat, i'm too old now) and spacers all round 20mm front 16mm back.
I'd love a trophy/v6 spoiler same as my exclusive but i'd settle for a cup one; that is if I can convince someone to post it to me here in Canada.
So so true they do always come back! My exclusive was the best car I've ever owned as an all-rounder.

I don't mind posting stuff out to you mate if you're ever stuck - i get plenty of time off work and there is a massive Renault dealer by me for parts etc so don't find yourself stuck!

Awesome.
So cool how most LHD-native cars imported to Japan stay as LHD models, even though they drive on the left like us.

Thanks! It works out really nicely here in Canada with it being LHD.

I have another one on the way which I couldn't pass up on....

Would be so weird seeing these in Canada! I bet people look at you like you have two heads driving them around.

Haven't had it out on the road yet so see people reaction, I think I have the only Ph1 in Western Canada!!

It is getting the Canadian equivalent of an MOT today, I think it's failed on a CV boot, aux tensioner rubbing on the aux belt and the front discs being a little pitted from where it has been sat around. I've ordered the necessary parts and should be on the road in no time!
The underside looks so weird without rust!

How much do they go for in Japan?
The silver one was 250,000 yen at auction - about 1700 pounds. This one has 71,000 miles on it.
The red one was 300,000 yen from a dealer - about 2000 pounds. This one has 59,000 miles on it.

So not a stupid amount then.

I think it would be cheaper to import that flamer to here than to fix the rot on my one! (Exclamation Mark to mask my tears...)

No it's not mega money but by the time you have added shipping and tax it does start to creep up. But most of the cars from Japan are so so so clean on the underside with no rust or corrosion issues. It's quite amazing considering the age of the cars.

I also believe that the Ph1's will go up in value. It's hard to find good examples these days.

Howdy! Fellow JDM Iceberg Ph1 "Lutecia" owner here [emoji4]

We're in Dubai so I don't worry much about rust; heat strokes from the French aircon is our enemy here!
