Joe's 182 semi lemon

So I'm back in a clio after selling my dreadful 172 for a MX-5 then selling that to upgrade to a Mazda 3 MPS Aero.
Finding that a bit boring I wanted to get back into a Clio, a good one.

I found this one for sale a couple of hours away for 2400 which was a bit much but I needed a car. It's come with a bunch of history and has a old sticker from here so someone's previously had it on here.
Belts and dephaser have been done with a full top end rebuild after the aux belt took out the timing belt. The garage that did it didnt seal it up properly because it has a slight oil leak up top.

The exhaust doesn't sit properly and bangs at the back. I'm guessing it's knackered engine mounts and a snapped exhaust mount.

Passengers window reg is buggered.
Also bound to be a couple of small things I've missed.

The plan is to fix all of the problems not including the slight oil leak for now and bolt on some goodies.
So far I've got a PMS Shifter, turinis with Nankang ns1s(cheap and potentially cheerful) Mintex M1144 pads with Brembo hc disks, stud conversion.

I've also just ordered some cooksport springs for now and have a brand new Whiteline rear arb that is currently on the marketplace (not really sure it's much use to me)

Next on the list is polybush most things.

Anyway thanks for reading any suggestions welcome

So the Turinis are one. Still have some overkill 20mm spacers which will be coming off tomorrow when I fit the stud conversion.
Getting some really bad arch scrape at the back with any sort of weight in. Going to get some genuine shocks to go with some cooksport springs.

Also noticed today the scorpion cat back has started blowing and has started to snap off at a rear mount. Going to get it welded tomorrow.

Also! Yet another also I've developed a misfire...

So the headlight restoration is done, Not too happy with the offside one so might have to go over it again. When I took the tape off the nearside it pulled some paint . Knew it was badly painted so it's my own fault.

Gave it a clean and decided I should put my cooksport springs on.
All ready for the oil leak to be sorted on Tuesday

So the oil leak has been fixed, it was the Camshaft seals. I had a new set of belts and pulleys (not dephaser as it was new last year)

I've just removed the scorpion exhaust and fitted a ktec resonated system.

I'm not chasing this illusive misfire. I've ordered an injector to swap around to see if I can make it better.

It took part of its first event this weekend with Preston Motorsport clubs autosolo. It went well until the last lap when I nailed 2 cones and lost 4 places on the leaderboard.

So 5 days after sorting my misfire with the Injector I appear to have another misfire...

It appears to have an intermittent 2nd lambda fault. I'm not convinced it's that causing it. Its very occasional and no where near as bad as the Injector issue.

I tried to fit the dampener kit for my PMS Shifter but it was catching no matter what. At closer inspection it's also knocking the turret when going into reverse. I'm going to re adjust it one day to sort it out.

I seem to have developed quite a bad knock on the nearside front in very few miles... will inspect tomorrow.

Problem free motoring

Unless i'm mistaken a post cat lambda would have no effect at all on your car and would only bring on your EML. The issue is elsewhere if still misfiring.

So... this morning I got in the car to set off, it started up fine and idled ok with no sign of smoke.
I set off and it completely bogged down and wouldn't accelerate for a good... 200 ft? Then it was perfectly fine.

Going well this is

I thought it might have been the case, worst case I use them for autosolos. Wanted some AD08R but the guy who gets them is busy.

These tyres are really good on track, not as good as federal 595rs though.

They are very noisey sounded like a wheel bearing gone on my EVO X.
They may take longer to get heat into as the Clio is so much lighter.

As a trackday tyre they are good as an everyday tyre they are very compromised.

Bit of a aesthetic week, some silver coloured front indicator bulbs in to clean it up a bit.
I also picked up some cheap phase 1 rear lights, I quite like them on the blue Clios. Not to everyone's taste but it's not their car .
Now have a slight earth issue somewhere with the rear lights, I'll sort it next week.

Picking up a Sparco Sprint bucket seat up tomorrow while in Leeds.

Dead day at work so I decided to do a couple of boring bits and bobs on the Clio.

New pollen filter fitted.
I decided the studs are far far too long but I don't have another option at the moment.

Replaced the nearside front wishbone because the ball joint was buggered.
Also put my brembo hc discs and some girling pads on. I was going to do a break fluid change but the bleed nipples are a bit buggered and I'm not snapping one on a bank holiday weekend Friday [emoji23]

Decided to become a bit of a yobbo, fitted this sub and built in amp I picked up off of a mate for £20. Sick of the crap sound system, the 3mps has a full bose set up so I'm a bit spoilt. Took about 2 hours 30 to set it up roughly. Need a tiny bit of cable management and to mount it tomorrow.
I'm going to use some inch brackets to bolt it to the floor and seal over the bolts.

Getting a sabelt renault sport wheel and boss delivered tomorrow

Done my first even away from Preston Motorsport club, a multi club Autosolo at the Lymm services. The clio did really well and I finished with 1st in Clubmans class. I think it needs a pair of front shocks really.

Looks like good fun this auto solo lark, am I right in thinking its the same as auto testing with no reversing? Might see if there's any local to me and pop along to watch one

It's exactly that, really good fun for 30 odd quid.

You get a map like this and you walk it to learn it and go and have fun
