After my Ph1 met an untimely end and the shell went off to the scrap yard nearly a month ago I was on the lookout for another Clio. Didn't really have a solid plan of what I was looking for, would have loved another Ph1 and am still looking but didn't see what I wanted and couldn't get a couple of people to part with there's  then someone sent me a link with a 172 Cup that needs some work, I think the previous owner was on this forum. Bought it unseen other than the following pictures

It was in South Wales so then had to arrange to get it to me on the back of a low loader

It arrived yesterday and I haven't had chance to look at it properly but it definitely needs some work 😂 here is the only pic I have of it so far since it arrived, I will be going over it on Sunday and will decide what is happening!

It currently has brand new cup suspension with brand new Cooksport springs, Drilled & grooved front discs with EBC red pads, Standard rear brakes with brand new calipers, Polybushed dog bone mount, 182 wheels with non legal tyres, EPAS (needs wiring up), Stripped interior (completely ) and a lack of exhaust! I knew I shouldn't have sold the Pure Motorsport one off the Ph1 😂

I did think this when you were talking of getting another one!

What's the plan for it? Track or road car?

I am in 2 minds at the minute, going to see what happens on Sunday, I have kid's so would be good to be able to get them in it if needs be but also would be easier from where it is to go the whole hog with it with cage and track it

Good luck with it. Hope it works out better than the ph1!

I did say to the person who bought the exhaust that I might regret this  will sort out another exhaust, these things happen, let's hope it ends up better than the Ph1

it'll never be better than a phase 1 ;-)
nah nice to see another one saved and the cups are great cars out the box, sort the niggles on this one and should be a good one!

Wowzers, that defo looks a project.............. but also very cool as well :up:

Will look forward to updates on this, sounds like it's already got some nice bits on it which is a good start at least

As a side note.... whats the EPAS? I've seen this mentioned a few times but have no understanding lol

Electronic power steering, the mk2 dci's had it and can bolt it onto 1*2's
Means simplified under the bonnet setup and one less system to piss fluid out.
Not sure on weight saving, may be a little but the epas motorised column is pretty heavy

Had it on the phase 1 (didn't own the car long) and can't really remember adjusting it.

Benefit I assume would be to suit driving situations

Yeah guess the adjustment is just a nice perk, think main reason is what I put, particularly for track cars

It needs wiring up but will be interesting to try it, I have a couple of friends running it on fast road/track cars, I hadn't realised it was adjustable though, will let you know when I have a seat in the car and driven it as to what I think about it

Managed to get down and have a proper look round the cup today, it's already on different wheels, only temporary but with legal tyres and it currently has a driver's seat in although again only temporary. Managed to clear it out and hoover what was left and give it a quick wash on the outside so could check the bodywork properly. Have the start of a list to buy which currently stands at brake pads all round, rear discs and rear brake lines as they are missing the flexible section. Also have to sort out other things but that's a starting point  Few pics as it stands after it's wash

Wheels it came on, wind deflectors and cobra bucket seat are all up for sale, have kept all bit's that were inside that we might need apart from the butchered dash

All being well this donor car will be arriving on Monday, I have gone half's with a friend who also needs some bit's off it, should help with the lack of interior in the cup, decided this was the easiest way to replace all the missing interior rather than trying to buy all the bit's individually which I think could have turned in to a nightmare

Bodywork isn't great on it but am hoping to recoup some of the money selling off some of the bit's that neither of us need, I have some other ideas for the interior but want to get a complete car first and then go from there

I agree, that's a much better way as *hopefully* everything will be there, original and untouched, ready to be transferred........ trying to get it all separately would be a mission for a complete interior of everything!!

Car is complete as far as I am aware so whilst I am not expecting it to be immaculate should form a good starting point, it will hopefully go out of one and in to the other  that's the plan for now

That's a great plan to save lots of hassle. When do you hope to get the cup on the road?

Am planning on transferring as much as possible over next weekend, am just organising a cup dash loom so that might slow me up if that doesn't arrive and then have all brake pads, rear discs and rear brake lines to do, wire in the EPAS and pinch the exhaust off the flamer as a temporary measure so hopefully in 3/4 weeks all being well, unless anything else crops up, would like to get it on the road as quickly as possible

Sounds like a busy month then!
It will be 😂

I presume you'll be at Alex's a lot then!
I am thinking of moving in  am not sure his mum knows the flamer is coming yet, we have gone halves on it though so it's half his fault 😂

It's not great inside it has to be said, hopefully the donor will help make it easier, let's see what we can do with it, the outsides not too bad once it has new bumpers (rear already organised) it's a work in progress, I wouldn't have taken it on if I didn't know Alex, he tagged me on Facebook for both of them

Donor has arrived this evening and am glad to say all the bit's I will need look good, need a clean but other than that looks good. Car has had paint so bodywork isn't great and rot is setting in especially round the rear arches so feel better about breaking it as it's probably past being saved realistically, hopefully more updates over the weekend

It's going to be a busy weekend, just a front bumper missing off the original list of items that we needed, looking forward to getting going on it

Had half a day on the cup on Saturday and the full day today and it is looking more like a car inside again  I left on Saturday thinking why am I trying to put all the interior in again but after today where we have actually put things back in I can see that it will come together hopefully. Had a bit of a nightmare as the new dash loom I bought (as the one in the car had started to be messed with by previous owner) the connector was different so wouldn't connect to the rear car loom so we ended up putting the replacement rear loom in as well which was interesting 😂 can't tell you how much you need someone who knows what they are doing (not me). Have left it with nearly all rear interior now in bar parcel shelf and boot carpet and all carpets in and lower dash. Also put a new rear bumper on that I picked up in the week (not perfect but better than the one that was cracked) and have also hopefully organised a new front bumper just have to get that collected, donor flamer nearly all stripped to so all in all a productive weekend, more updates to come
