Failed MOT - replacement parts help

  Clio 182 Trophy
Took my Trophy for it's MOT this afternoon and had 3 fails, 0 advisories.

First is; Exhaust system not adequately supported front. Apparently one of the bolts is missing between cat and manifold. Already ordered the kit from renaultpartsdirect.

Second; Track rod end excessive play. I'm going to replace both while i'm at it. Are these the right ones for a Trophy?

Last is brakes imbalanced across an axle front. Going to have a look in the daylight tomorrow to see if it's obvious. Anyone had this before / know what it's most likely to be for me to look out for?

Cheers!

Check that both pads are making good contact with the discs, that nothing is sticking on or that one side looks more worn than the other. Ensure the calipers are working correctly, and also that the pads themselves aren't contaminated by anything. Chances are the sliders are seized or sticking from when the pads were last done and no grease used on the sliders etc.

With regards to the track rod ends, when removing count the number of turns and fit the new ones to the same number. Will make it drivable for the retest lol.

My old 172 failed on brake imbalance years ago . There were no obvious signs like uneven brake pad wear . I popped the piston out , grease it then put it back in , had it re-tested and it passed . Just be aware though if you do pop out the piston , they're a bugger to get back in .

Managed to change the track rod end on one side tonight so that's one fail cleared.

Went to look at the "snapped" bolt in exhaust, turns out it's not snapped at all. Looked more like the bolt holes have just decided to run away.. is this normal? (Cat left, mani right)

All the same from base 1,2 up ,but are handed due to offset, not threads.

  dan's cast offs.
seen the cats go there, bung a washer under the spring and should be fine.

that should of been a pass and advise i'd say, not a fail.

What do you mean by under the spring? Between the spring and the cat?

I guess the proper fix is to get a new cat with shiny bolt holes

The proper fixing kit has two bolts, two springs and washers and nuts. The spring goes over the bolt to keep tension I guess. If you put a washer on both outer faces of the joint then it should hold better.

Ahh yeh I've got that kit from Renaultpartsdirect. The upside down hat shaped washer doesn't seem to fit in the gap it should, maybe I wasn't being forceful enough with it. As I think that would hold it all in

Looks like there are still remants of the old hat in the manifold (if thats it on the right). You need to chisel / hammer it out.

That could explain it then. Will have a go later and see if anything comes out, cheers fella

I had a front imbalance 2 mots ago. Just popped the pads out cleaned the caliper and seals. Popped the piston out to the point where it was nearly all the way out and just kept pumping the piston in and out. Took it for a drive and slammed the anchors on repeatedly and got them hot. Retested the next day and passed.

Last night managed to change the nearside TRE. Just need alignment to finish that off.

Also hammered out the old remains of the top hat washer and hammered in the new one 80%, it's pretty solid and I think it'll get through the MOT at least.

Took it in for re-test today and it passed, woo!
MOT centre had no spare bays at the time so his words were "I'll just trust you did that bolt cos i can't get on a ramp"

What did you do with the brakes to get them in better balance?

Pulled out the caliper, pads out, wiped / scraped the excess dust from all the edges and inside the caliper, put some grease on the contact points and stuck it back together.
