£4.5k too much?

  FF LY 182
Hi the ClioSport.net community,
I've seen this advert for a Full Fat LY 182 on Pistonheads.
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifi...-84k-2006-full-fat-and-all-belts-done/3330108
I know that Liquid Yellow carries a premium, but surely the £4.5k being asked for is too steep a price? Or does the LY 182 now command such a figure?
Any help from an experienced head would be welcome. I've really wanted one of these for donkey's, but I don't want to pay well over the odd's for one lol.
Sorry if I've posted this in the wrong area!
Cheers

If you have always wanted one and it is the car for you then go for it, you wont regret it. 4.5k seems a bit steep to me but it does say ono so put in a cheeky one and see where it goes from there.
Does look nice, ask him where the belts were done first of all or you could see £4500 turn into £5000 after you re do them.
let us know :)

I'd say it's about 1k overpriced.
Looks in good condition though. Paintwork looks very clean.
Has tinted rear lights and colour coded rear bumper strip which I've never seen done before, don't like it either.

I bought mine for 3.6k just over a year ago with 47k miles.

Id definitely want to know who did the cambelt. if its somebody well respected then id say upto £4k would be decent money as other than a few small cosmetic things it looks very well cared for!

also and most importantly

Id be embarrassed to drive round in a car with a brembo stickers on standard callipers even for the drive home! so if you do buy it then please please address that issue first!

I think aside from the brake calipers, rear lights and the hazard panel, it looks a nice car. He's obviously looked after it.

It's f**king yellow though. What self respecting man would drive a yellow car??

Its a shame the owner has pissed about with it and made it look nasty. Only decent thing he has changed is the steering wheel. Wouldnt pay anywhere near 4.5k even if he had left it factory though.

All the items you purist are complaining about are a few quids worth of bolt/clip on plastic, would take one afternoon and about £50 to put right, how that can be the reasoning behind the valuations you come up with is beyond me.
However ignoring those reasons, even if it was 100% standard, its still 1k overpriced.

Time is money, and getting the wheels changed to a colour that isn't s**t will cost far more than £50.

I hope it's worth 4.5k, if it is then my standard LY with the same mileage and OZ Ultra's will be worth about 5, which would be 2k more than I paid for it.

I like the wheels. I like that the diamonds yellow.

The Rear bumper insert needs to be black, but that's easy to fix.

The Inside... Well it needs all that yellow changing to sliver. the Clocks can stay yellow as I think on their own that's fine.

I would say with things changed its £3.5k to the right person.
To me... I would love a LY 182, and if belts done within previous 12 months I would be interested if i was in the market for a 182 for say around £3k

Looks pony as fook!! Are those Brembo decals on standard calipers? (unless I'm being blind, I can't see in the ad about any Brembo's on it)

If you want a nice one, see what Steve & R Sports has in.

Thanks for the responses guys. I would've replied sooner, but I didn't have the privileges to comment.
So, I managed to get him down to £4.1k but he's not budging from that. I do love the LY's but not enough to pay circa £650 over the odds.
Shame really because as mentioned above, there's only a few little cosmetic jobs to do on it. I am definitely not a fan of those rear tints, yellow bumper insert, and as for the brembo decal.. 😂
Only other things I'd change is the wheels for turini's and possibly headlight washer blanks, with a view to get recaro's etc later on.
Ah well, guess I'll look for a standard colour to get more for my money!

Its hard to value a 182 in LY. They're so rare they will command a premium but for the price its up for you could bag a nice sub 40k mile 182 with the belts done albeit in a different colour. It depends how badly you want to own a LY 182 or how much you're prepared to pay to own an exclusive colour. I would give £3800 for the car providing the history was decent and the belts had been done at a reputable specialist.

Yeah, that's the sticking point for me. He's convinced it's worth the £4.5k!
It's a hefty premium when you put it that way. It's got a FSH according to the ad, may have to go view it before I give up on it!

I'd pay the premium personally, but car colour is important to me, with any car I buy (or look to buy) I always try and get an exclusive colour, or a colour which I think is really nice, like Riviera Blue, or Midnight Purple, or if I was getting an M3 it would be Laguna Seca Blue - it just makes it that bit more special.

My reasoning is I paid 1k less for mine. Quite simple. Lol.
I don't deem it to be 1k over priced because of clip on bits etc
As you stated, fairly easy fix. Its just over priced, plain and simple.
Not slating it from a purist perspective, just don't like what he's done. Mines not factory, I have new RS badge on back, colour coded strips, black diamond on front etc. People may not like what I've done. [emoji5]

Mine was owned by Renault mechanic for 8 years and had 50k miles when I bought it just over a year ago for 3.5k.

Looks ok.

all the shizzle is about £100 to rectify or £250 if you change the wheels back.
Not sure on belt specialist-

so valuation.
£3700-3900 if decent specialist on the belts.
£3500 if Jo pony garage.

Just a quick update, I bought the car
Aesthetically it's pretty perfect, pictures really don't do it justice.
Sounds like it needs a new NSR wheel bearing though and I want to do the belts ASAP too. Anywhere good to get it done in South Wales?
Cheers for the advise thus far guys

Looks like a well looked after car. Would you not fancy doing the rear wheel bearing yourself? I just changed both rear discs including bearings and it wasn't that bad of a job. Depends how much labour it will cost you.

Great. Its expensive but the colours hard to resist. Nice to see another one in south Wales. I'm only up in Brynmawr area.
Yeah. Dan sjm is awesome, recommend him highly.

Yeah. Easy enough job, did mine, just make sure you use a torque wrench and a new hub nut. Don't 're use the old one. [emoji106]
