Managed to wash it with pure water from stealing the window cleaners supply next door. Hope doesn't notice.... Barely had to touch the paint so it's caused very little (if any) damage. I only have polishing and waxing to do by 1130.... Chop chop fat boy!!

I had visions of it being all cloudy in the morning. I've still got to valet it yet but I wanted to get some protection on the paint before I took it outside.

FFs. I'm turning into a right nerd.

It's a slippery slope into detailing. A slick waxy slope.

I am one of you deep down. I just try and avoid it because my OCD kicks in. I covered every panel 5 times tonight, each time I used the same put on/buff off pattern to minimise damage.

Someone may or may not have caught me using a flat head screwdriver and a cloth cleaning out the gaps in the pedal rubbers too..... LOL!!

Once i've sold this car i'll go back to washing with a brush and blading the water off. I can't cope with all this.

If you put enough swirls into paint it levels out anyway iirc...

Re: Detailing Chat & Questions Thread

    Dear Detailing Deidres

I would like some assistance in checking I have picked the correct products please. I'm not after a full correction, I just want it to look better than it is, ie. less light swirls, less dull and a bit more shine. I don't have a machine polisher and nor do I want to yet, not wanting to spend loads unless I really get into it. I'm aware of and currently do the 2BM, I've clayed a bit and and am going to get Tardis, it's the steps after I'm new to. My 330 is almost exactly the same as the one JimWD detailed http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showt...-(Orient-Blue) but nothing too deep, just lots of swirls.

I'm thinking Menzerna Power Finish 203S, then PB's Black Hole and finish with PB Natty's Blue.

Is it worth doing the polish before the glaze? Will I see much return for my effort or should I just try the glaze out first?

And pads needed: Lake Country Light Cut for polish, microfiber pad or foam pad for glaze and a foam pad for wax? And then a couple of buffing towels for glaze and wax. Is that ok?

Any help will be much appreciated

Re: Detailing Chat & Questions Thread

after washing and before claying, have a look into iron x to be used after tardis. these will help remove a lot of rubbish before claying.

2 ways, corrective polishing or filling the swirls. By hand you will struggle to get a decent level of correction, but if it is something you want to consider have a look at GTechniq P1, they have a video of results by hand. its cut level depends on the pad harshness that you use more than it material makeup as with the menz range.
    http://gtechniq.com/shop/3s-for-cars...posite-polish/
the other will be with a filling product, such as blackhole. not used it myself so can't comment on its abilities but some are available with very fine abrasives such as a lot of pre wax cleansers that when worked by hand still give a split of correction and filling, but still leaving a good base for laying a protection layer of wax or sealant. You haven't mentioned protecting it but I presume you are if looking into prepping it. Have a look for Gallys recent thread on correcting a Evo with just a machine and lime prime pre wax cleanser. The oils in these will help bring back the shine but will only last as long as your wax or sealant does

Thanks Dave. I've seen Ironx mentioned a lot here so will get some of that too then if that'll make a big difference. Will look at the P1 videos and into different pads tonight.

Will Natty's Blue not protect enough? Will something like Lime Prime make a big difference?

I'm cautious of not wanting to take on too much too quickly or I may end up putting myself of doing it.

    Thanks for the info!

I've just realised I'll be spending about £100 on detailing stuff which is much higher than I was intending to. What could I cut out of here to start with and then add at a later date?

Citrus Power, Tardis, Iron X, Gtechniq P1, Black Hole, Lime Prime, Natty's Blue.

Bearing in mind I'll need to get pads as extra buffing towels too.

    Nattys Blue.

It only lasts a few weeks before it starts to drop off.

Replace that with something else to protect IMO

cheaper and better value for money products can replace citrus power the will have better cleaning abilities. These will of course remove waxes or sealants whereas citrus power won't so depends on when and how often you plan to use it, have a look at autosmart G101, sold in 5l cans.
again tardis can be bought in 5l cans so works out very economical.
I'd imagine your brakes will through off an awful lot of hot dust that sticks to the wheels and paint? iron x will remove this and speed up the horrible job of having to clay, it's not one of my favourite parts.

tar and iron removers and claying won't be used every wash, just when you want to strip off old wax and lay new.

I would use either black hole or lime prime, not really worth doing both IMO. Lime prime will have more cleaning abilities whereas blackhole will fill more swirls. depends what you want from the finish. if you're happy with this leave the P1 polish for the time being as well.

Nattys blue again not used it but suppoesed to be nice and easy to use with a nice finish, but won't last all that long. if you haven't got it already maybe have a look into an easy to use spray sealant like tough coat or werkstatt. EGP again won't last all that long if you don't mind apply fortnightly for it to keep protecting.
