iPhone 4s stuck in earphone 'mode'

My colleagues 4s is saying there are earphones plugged in constantly, this is resulting in him not being able to make or receive calls as he can't hear anybody.

Any idea what this could be?

It'll be the sensor inside thinking it's still plugged in.

Put them in and out, in and out, in and out, wiggling it about. That should solve it.

I had this with mine, it was a bit off fluff or something inside the socket. I just got a paper clip to dig it out and it worked fine afterwards
