172 Cup Belts and Dephaser - Local garage job?
Hi Guys,
Had my 172 Cup 52 Plate 58K miles, for 3 weeks now. Going to get the Belts changed for peace of mind.
My question is should I take it to my local Renault dealer (Martins Renault Basingstoke, anyone been there before, any thoughts?) or should i take it down to k-tec? My local renault garage matched the price of k-tec for changing the belts and dephaser - £585 all in - which seems ok considering the size of the job. The dephaser is not making any noise but thought its worth changing it now while all the belts are off, right idea?
Just not sure if its worth taking a day off work to go to a specialist like k-tec or whether I would be safe enough going to my local renault dealer?
Thanks for the help

I can't speak for where to send you as both will do a good job but I always advise my customers that if they can afford to do the dephaser to do so purely for piece of mind... Chances are its never been done before and we've had a string of them lately which weren't noisy but did show move movement than I'd like.

Have you considered MWM?

They quote 340 for belts on a cup, although obviously you'll need to ask them how much the depashor increases that by but it shouldnt be as much as 585 still.

Re: 172 Cup Belts and Dephaser
lt and dephaser on a cup is £451.53 from me. Oil and filter change is strongly advised at the same time

Re: 172 Cup Belts and Dephaser
Hi Dan,
451.53 is a very good price as far as I can see, when would be the soonest you could do it? Coming from basingstoke so its at least 2 hours to get to you but worth the petrol cost if that price includes VAT etc?
Chip-mk1 - I tried to call MWM but there was no answer from the landline or mobiles so i will try again later and see what their cost would be very the belts and dephaser.
Thanks

Re: 172 Cup Belts and Dephaser
Right I have just booked this in with Rentech down in Porstmouth. £450 for belts and dephaser, cant ask for better than that really and they can do it next wednesday... winner!
Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated.

Re: 172 Cup Belts and Dephaser
Excellent news mate
Not worth taking a risk leaving it with these cars when it comes to belts, and that sounds like far better value than the main dealer price you had

I just got quoted £552 for cambelt and auxbelt at Martin's Basingstoke (discount offer) but the dephaser is a further £212 quid?!?!
Did you have to haggle with them to get them to offer K-Tec's all in price?
