    Coolant for a Clio 182?

Right, someone said to me that the 182's use a different coolant to the usual stuff you can buy from Halfords ect..

Can I just use anything? Or is there a specific type I should use?

Renault Type D coolant is what you'll need. You can get 5 litres of it direct from Renault for about £12ish or online. 5 litres is enough for a coolant change as I had some left over when I did mine

I'm just changing the thermostat, so I'm not doing a complete change, just will need to top it up. I'll go to Renault tomorrow, if they're open!

Re: Coolant for a Clio 182?

Planning on changing my coolant too, just wondering why this certain type of coolant is needed rather than just any coolant from Halfords or a local shop. Can anyone shed any light?

Its becuase renault reccomend it, its probably to do with the agents in it that protect water ways and stuff like that, some coolant will eat away at metals

Re: Coolant for a Clio 182?

They recommend you run it on 98ron too but 95 is fine. Is it the same sort of thing with this, or are people really against using anything but the proper stuff with coolant?

Genuine question btw so I know my options need to get it done over the weekend so may struggle getting the Renault stuff!

Re: Coolant for a Clio 182?

At £12 its pointless putting anything else in, the red halfords stiff is equivilant to renaults supposedly, i would run that if it was a cheap car,

Re: Coolant for a Clio 182?

As said though I really have time to be waiting for the Renault stuff if they don't have it in stock... need to do the coolant flush over the weekend to use the car for Monday, which gives me... today! If needs be though I'll just wait for the Renault stuff. Just wondering what the differences were cheers.

Type-D is a description of the mixture and intended temperature protection range not an actual product name. You need an ethelyn glycol based anti-freeze mixed with water to give protection to -23 degrees. It comes in all different colours do don't be put off by the pretty fluids but never mix brands or colours and never put neat glycol based AF into the system.

We recommend and use the Renault per-mix for two reasons. Firstly, and the most important, price as its cheap then secondly ease of use. No faffing around with a hydrometer to make sure you've got the correct mix ratio... Just open, pour and you're done.

Excellent Mick, thanks for that. I'll hold out until I can get some of the Renault stuff then
