    Clio 172 Air-con delete

ive been lookin at the air-con delete kits for my clio there 300 quid since ive took my engine out for a strip down and clean I thought id see if i could remove the aircon my self, the engine is not back in and running yet but I think ive managed it, Ive removed the full air-con system and pump, i put a bigger pulley with grooves and lipped edge off another scrap engine in place of the smooth bottom pulley running the belt under instead of over completely missing where the aircon was retentioned the belt and it seems spot on. thought it was worth a mention to save you guys a fair bit of money

Would be worth posting a picture of how you have done it, easier to understand than text.

you need to register with a photo hosting site such as imageshack and upload it to there, then click on the forum embed and they will make a link for you to post here so your pics work.

    Re: Clio 172 Air-con delete

if u see the bottom pulley is toyota avensus timing pulley its threaded with lipped sides and larger than the standard smooth pulley, this allowed me to remove the aircon pump on the original size belt and keep the tention, thats how you save £300

    Nice one

    neat solution that!

Basically the same way I did it on the Saab engine in my nova to keep the wrap path the same.

so is it a bolt on mod??

sign up, make a guide with part numbers and a few more pics maybe,

come up with a name for it (involving your user name), and go down in clio history!!

It's not a bolt on kit it's made up in my daft head and just seemed to work lol it's easy to do any large grooved pulley works as the tensioner adjusts the size of the belt

    Re: Clio 172 Air-con delete

i mean does it require any custom modification with welding/grinding?

or is it buying parts from the correct suppliers!

By the looks of it its just a case of:
    remove belt
    Remove aircon pump
    remove bottom pulley
fit new bottom pulley the correct size instead
    refit belt

You could achieve the same probably just by using a slightly shorter belt and the standard pulley

    Re: Clio 172 Air-con delete

No because the belt goes over the smooth pulley but is held in place because of the aircon pulley if u use a shorter belt it would just slip off the smooth pulley As it is re-routed under
