What is it with servicing cars?

Not complaining about garages, but owners that "lose the history" or have 10 other lines about why they haven't change the belts, the oil, the filter and the rest!

I'm after a 172 cup or possibly a 182, and nearly all the good ads en up with at least one shady story. I'm supposed to trust that someone I've never met is good for it when they say the belts were done 6 months ago. Honest. I must be a real square with car maintenance, all done properly and recorded. Hardly a big deal to do is it?

Rant over. I just want a decent clio for a fair price with no stories, they are thin on the ground!

Have I set my expectations too high?

i bought my 182 with no history, which is currently forsale btw.
. had everythig done at a specialist for peace of mind, couldnt just take somebodys word for it

Lol! The last trophy he had for sale had 2 stamps in the service book!

I think it just boils down to money, people are just too tight to service their cars properly, and those that aren't and genuinely look after their cars (like me) are put off ever selling them as people will only phone up and winge about how much cheaper they can find
similar mileage cars for.

Its not the fact of being to tight at all i service mine myself every 6k only time it goes to a specialist is to have belts one! and tbh the belts is the only part that potenial buyers want to see in the service book on these cars!

Yes its nice to have all the stamps etc..especially if its a new new car and you change them every few months/years in which that side of service history helps alot...

But eventualy these clios with be costing around £500 a time and a full service book is only going to give you a few Quid more if that

Unless you have a very low miler in pristene condition!! Ie a v6 which is a rare model in itself

Yeah but when you service it yourself you are atleast keeping the receipts etc, that is in itself service history.

Mine gets serviced by myself, then I again I do have an engineering degree and I've worked as a mechanic in the past, and even the belts get done by me.

The OP was referring the cars with none at all!
