Clio 182 Exhaust Gas Monitor Warning Light

Hi everyone,

I know this has come up a few times on here but I bought a late 04 182 yesterday and this warning light came on. Many people have been saying that it could be the lambda sensor or the cat needs replacing but has any heard that it could possibly be a coil?
As I have never driven a 182 before I'm not sure if its down on power as I have nothing to compare it to but I'm getting about 34 mpg whilst doing about 80 on the motorway, don't know if that helps.

What fuel did you put in it? They can come on if you use normal unleaded.

Yeah I filled it up with normal unleaded on the way back from getting it. What fuel do you recommend?

98 Ron (V-Power)
Or any other premium unleaded

Ok thanks. I don't understand why that would cause it to come on considering standard unleaded is what the manual recommends anyway??

Mines always been run on V-power (98 Ron) I stuck normal unleaded in the other day and it came on, ive since gone back to 98 and its fine.

Oh right ok well that makes sense as the guy who owned it before me was only putting vpower in it. Thanks for your help

They run fine on 95RON

Do you think its not that I put 95 in then? Do you think it could be that because it has been running on 98 its a temporary glitch?

Its difficult to say tbh. Best waiting for a specialist to come along.

But IMO to say its because you're not running it on v-power is just silly, its a clio not a ferarri and the vpower wont make much if at all difference tbh.

Get it plugged into a diagnostic tool thats the only way to 100% check whats wrong.

Yeah thats what I was thinking. Have you ever heard it being a problem with the coils?

they have a coil pack, leads and plugs.

If it was coil pack you might notice with it mis firing etc. Lambda sounds like a good place to start, but its a guessing game until you get it plugged in

Im new to the site, & recently purchased a Clio 182 - I'm sure I used the premium unleaded (97 - not 98), would this be the reason my light has come on ?
Or could anyone shed any light in my direction on what could be causing it. I know you've mentioned a OBD (on board diagnostic) but where can I get this done - where it isn't going to cost a fortune - cheers

i dont know if it would be down to petrol seems unlikely to me. i had it checked at kwik fit and it was the post lambda sensor which was faulty so had to get that changed which was £100.00 fitted (not by them, i got it fitted somewhere else). what you could do is get it plugged in and get them to turn the light off and see if comes back on after, that way you definitely know its faulty. getting it checked usually costs around £25.00 i could've find a price any cheaper than that! hope this helps

That seems a lot of money, which I don't fancy paying.

I personally dont think the petrol would make any difference, i havent had my 182 long but the previous owner ran it on premium fuel only. I intended to do the same but came to a garage which didnt stock it, i put the 95 standard in, a few days later i had a emissions light. Put v power in it on my next fill up and not long after it went again.

Like i said i agree with the guy who mentions its no ferrari or anything and i doubt there is a missive difference but its strange that the light came on at the same time the fuel changed.... It is important to not i had also just fixed my manifold to cat joint as this was blowing abit so this could have been the contributing factor but who knows. Maybe fill it up with some v power and drive it around abit and see if the light comes off after atleast 50 plus miles, if not then i guess that isnt the problem!

Forgot to add, I started my car up yesterday afternoon, & noticed something missing.... The light has gone off.
Which is good news, but I'm taking it to a garage to get looked over (as Im having the Cambelt changed, Aux belt changed & Water pump), so i'll let them check it over

My EML came back on after haiving it reset. Need to try some V-Power as well
