Nickson's RenaultSport Megane 225 Trophy Progress Blog

    Hi guys!

As some of you are aware, I recently sold the Clio, and was in the process of getting a new car.

    Well..

We set off at 5:50 yesterday morning, and arrived at our destination at 11:45, approx 335 miles later.

Viewed the car, said yes, signed the documentation etc etc. And I was then the new owner of this:

The best bit for me: (I don't like mileage!)

Another 335 miles later, I finally got her home.

The trip, from Poole to Houghton-le-Spring and back took approximately 13 hours in it's entirety.

A very long journey, but in my eyes was very worth it!

Absolutely love the car, so smooth in it's power delivery. No rattles/knocks/bangs. Everything seems to be perfect with it at the moment!

The only problem is it needs it's cambelt doing as its still on the original, so is overdue. This is in the process of being booked into K-Tec for the following work:

    Cambelt + Tensioners
    Waterpump
    Aux belt + tensioners
    Coolant change
Goodridge brake lines + flush with "Castrol React Dot 4"

    That's it for now!

Definitely have some plans for it, such as removal of all of the stickers. I do not like them and think they "cheapen" the car.

I also hate the numberplates with the Renault symbol, so I have ordered some newuns from Fancyplates!

Brembo's are also needing some TLC, as someone has stick a red Brembo sticker over the black one.. Meh.

It's a bigger, faster, and in my eyes, more fun version of a Clio. I love it!

    Enjoy

It will break, go wrong and cost you a general fortune. My only advice to anyone buying on is leave it standard!

Going back to the one car, seems a fair compromise. Black R26 this time.

    Agreed!

Unsure about the ones above the side repeaters, but they will stay for now.

Have a little bit of progress already

Started removing all of the nasty stickers that donned the exterior of the car this evening:

    Rear window:

    Bootlid:

    Drivers side front bumper:

    Passenger side front bumper:

Drivers and passenger side rear quaters:

Unfortunately I was only able to remove the larger part of these stickers. I was using my fingernails to remove them, and they have now been somewhat chewed up in the process!

Will get the remainder of these stickers off tomorrow, and crack on with removing the sticky residue left behind from the rest of them!

I am undecided on these for now:

No doubt they will probably end up coming off, but they are staying for now.

Lastly, this is the amount of s**te that came off!

Tomorrow I will also be removing the 3 "Megane Sport" stickers from the windows.

No idea why the previous owner applied 3, but they are coming off, and will be replaced with a slightly more subtle version (if available).

    Cheers!

    Infinitely better without the stickers.

I put a couple of subtle 'Trophy' ones on my old one, anthracite/wheel coloured though so blended in pretty well against the Nimbus (bonnet edge and bootlid):

    Thanks mate!

Stickers don't look too bad on that!

Just need to rid myself of that sticky residue now and I will be happy .

Question, hope you can help out

When it comes to locking the car, do you need to press the button on the card, or does it do it when the card is no longer within the proximity of the car?

Haven't really had a chance to play around with it yet

Ah, thanks guys! Much easier than getting the card out each time to lock it

Still undecided on the side repeater stickers, will keep them for a while and see how I feel.

    The de-stickering continued today!

For some reason someone has stuck red Brembo decals over the original black ones.

Ok, in all fairness the black ones aren't perfect, but IMO are miles better than these red ones!

So, I got cracking and took some pictures in the process.

Only an after shot on the drivers side unfortunately:

    Before passenger side:

Passenger after! (Ignore the cigarette on the floor, I don't smoke and it appeared on the drive out of nowhere!)

    Both done:

I had a good nosey around in the arches whilst I was down there, and to my surprise, there was an awful lot of rust!

This isn't what I expected from a 28k mile car! The Clio was cleaner than this and that was double the age and mileage!

    Drivers side:

    Passenger side:

The rest of the car, bar the exhaust doesn't have a spot of rust! Very bizarre!

I also had a quick nosey around in the engine bay, looks clean to me!

Found a weird looking sticker though, any ideas?

So yeah, so far that's all!

Looks like I am going to have to start a list of things to do!

Such as replace those lower arms and all drop links. Possibly clean the rust up on the rest of it and give it a good Hammeriting .

    Cheers!

Its had new track rods+ends both sides recently, it is a little on the rusty side but nothing more than surface rust really.

Sticker could be anything really worst case its had a replacement engine from a breakers, would have to look for signs its been out before. Is the right period with the cam cover bolts though, see the oil seperator is happily leaking away as usual.
