New Cambelt Problem
Hello,
I had my cambelt and auxillery belt changed yesterday and since i picked it up the car is almost stalling when i come to a stop. The revs are dropping below 10000.
Does this indicate that they have not done the work correctly?
Thank you.

Re: New Cambelt Problem
A useless local garage. I know i shouldnt have gone there but they are convenient.
Where do i stand now? Can i get them to fix it or get my money back?
Thanks

Re: New Cambelt Problem
There is one of these threads a day at the moment
I'd bet as above the timing is wrong - there is also a good chance a few other bits and bobs may have not been done properly. As usual you've got no real choice but to get it looked at by someone who knows.
+ I should hope it doesn't rev to 10000rpm or something has gone seriously tits up!

I rest my case...
Why on earth did you take it to a place you describe as "a useless local garage" ?!?!!

Re: New Cambelt Problem
I didn't know they were useless before they did the work. They said that they would be able to do it.

Re: New Cambelt Problem
Do they have / did they use all the correct timing tools?
-
Re: New Cambelt Problem
how much did they take for doing all this?
-
Re: New Cambelt Problem
You should have been given some sort of Warranty for the job, otherwise i wouldnt of handed over any cash.

Re: New Cambelt Problem
Im guessing they do not have all the correct timing tools for the 172.
They said they will fix it if i get it in writing my another garage/RAC that it is there work that has caused this problem.
I am going to ring RAC now and hopefully get them to look at it for nothing as a garage will cost atleast £200.
Thanks for all the replies.

Re: New Cambelt Problem
I'd be pretty sure they f**ked it up! Speak to them and tell them the other garage are charging to look at the car and ask are they going to cover the costs? How much was the original bill?

Re: New Cambelt Problem
The RAC and i took it back to the garage and they said they are going to look at it. I think they are still claiming it is something else though.

Re: New Cambelt Problem
we "the specialists" are here for a reason
i've redone SO many cambelt jobs on 172/182's i've actually lost count, and had a few garages ring me to be gobby too (i love that part, the smug look on my face is fantastic!)
you MUST MUST MUST use all the tools when doing one
can someone please post a sticky about it!

Re: New Cambelt Problem
Are there special tools for the cliosport 172?, as i think they are using normal renault clio ones.
Anyway they are keeping it in over night to finish having a look tomorrow morning, so fingers crossed they fix it.

Re: New Cambelt Problem
Not sport specific exactly, but there's extras for vvt, pulley locking tool that only Renault make, and isn't mentioned in autodata. If they went by autodata, they did it wrong

SO there are more tools than the pin in the side of the block and the locking tools at the back of the Cams?
I did the cambelt on mine with my step dad and I've not had a problem with it since. He's done a few though, had a run of them a few weeks back and even he said to me you can't do the job without the right tools otherwise it screws up.
