Dunraven Bay - First real play with some new filters
As I really want to take my landscape photography up a notch, I invested in some new filters, but not the usual kind
These a rectangular drop in filters, not the usual circular screw in filters.
They look like this just so you get an idea
(Pic shamelessly stolen of the net
)

The main filter I was keen to use is a graduated ND filter, and you basically slide the filter up and down to were you want the start of the ND bit of the filter. So mainly on the horizon, and the sky is much brighter than the land.
Anywho, the pics. I warn you now, some of them are pretty similar, but I can't decide which ones of them I like best
1. Can't decide between these first four.

2.

3.

4.

5. Or the next three!

6.

7.

8.

9.

10. Bit of a random one, but I like the moody clouds in it!

11.

12.

13.

14.

15.

To give you an idea of what the Grad ND filter can do, here's some with/without shots:

oh.....and what happens if you get too close lol!

C+C welcome as always

Nice shots! My favs are 6 and 12
I've yet to try this with my filters, might take a road trip to the sea side lol.

Re: Dunraven Bay - First real play with some new filters
Dan how edited are these pictures after you take them? Or are they straight off the camera?
They look brilliant either way

Not much editing, as I'm on a learning curve with the filters, some shots were a bit overexposed, and some a bit under - so were corrected (shot in RAW).
You can set all that in the camera, but I prefer to have the shots as neutral as possible and then do it in PS so I can judge it much better.
Apart from that, a bit of contrast/levels adjustment, removing the dirt on my sensor
and removing people etc

And a very nice beach it was. Were you down there last night?! There were a lot of 'kids' having a BBQ.
And others you recommend? I've read that a beach near Monknash is good for photos.

Love the colours. Any links to the filters that you are using?

Sure
I've got this kit: (and the adaptor ring which isnt included!)
http://www.warehouseexpress.com/buy-...r-kit/p1018206
I also got some 0.9 (three stop) filters too, slightly cheaper!

The last sunset shots were taken using the 0.9 hard edge filter.

Re: Dunraven Bay - First real play with some new filters
Good work mate.
I need to get some better sea shots, no excuse considering its about 30 seconds away. Could do with investing in a pair of wellys tho
each time I've tried before I get caught by the tide

Re: Dunraven Bay - First real play with some new filters

i really do need to learn how to use my camera again

Re: Dunraven Bay - First real play with some new filters
Those are stunning.
I always thought a LOT of editing was required to get results like the 9.

Re: Dunraven Bay - First real play with some new filters
Awesome pics!
I had a couple od ND filters arrive the other day (4&8) so i think i will try to get down the beach for sunset tonight.
I think some grad filters are in order though on next pay day.
Oh yeah, 4, 10 and 12 are my favs

Re: Dunraven Bay - First real play with some new filters
Wow, they're great!
Really like those, something a bit different from the norm and love the use of the filters over 'shopping the effects in. I want to really improve my photography and do different stuff, so will definitely be going down to the sea and will look into filters.
Can't decide between #2 & #3 out of the first four but #6 is definitely my favourite out of the next 3. #12 is just amazing!

Quality shots Dan, looks like you've been taking them for years tbh. Easily as good as some of the more 'notable' seascape photographers on Flickr.

Re: Dunraven Bay - First real play with some new filters
Thanks guys.
Those who said they are popping along to a beach, let me know how it turns out. I'm looking for some nice locations to try.
Maybe a photography meet is on the cards?!
