Not really going to be a project as the car is now mostly finished. I have owned the Clio for 2 1/2 years and have been modifying the car from pretty much day one. I only really bought the Clio as a little bit of fun until I found something else, but within a week I totally fell in love with car's handling and the way the car drove, the car was totally standard at this point and I thought to myself it may be fun to see what can be done with this great little car.

All my previous cars had a few bits done to them before I got them and never really felt like my car, so I wanted to make the Clio all my own and got the mods under way.

This was the car when I first bought it, only mod was a yozza.

I originally wanted to get the car going a lot quicker so I looked at supercharging, ITBS, cams ect, but decided it would be a better idea to sort out the suspension, wheels ect. I then decided to get a set of 438 cams and was really happy with how the they performed but really wanted a Supercharger. I bought a supercharger kit from ktec and then the fun began, fitted the kit with a friend and the car went off to be mapped, whilst the car was being mapped the cam belt slipped and bent a load of valves and made a right mess of the head. I was devastated, but it seems it was my own fault for not getting a MEG key way pulley fitted. So after buying a brand new head form Renault and a Meg pulley the car was put back together only for the unthinkable to happen, the brand new head dropped a valve within 5 miles of being fitted.

This left me in a nightmare situation, so the supercharger ect was removed form the car and it went to Renault for them to diagnose why the head had failed, after a long battle with Renault and being without the car for 5 months Renault excepted liability and fitted a brand new engine in the car. After running the car in for a good 1500 miles the supercharger was refitted, we decided not to refit the cams as they were probably a bit much on the standard engine.

The supercharger has now been on for about 2 month's, had a issue with a misfire but that was found to be a loose connection and the car now runs great. I have done one track evening and a whole day at snetterton and a lot of hard road miles and the car has preformed without any issues. I am really happy with the car now, I don't intend on taking the car any further, but you never know.

Vid of track evening

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLpJpyQVi40

So this is the spec of the car now and probably wont change to much as long as nothing brakes.

Hi guys
Could do with some advice really
I want to do a high boost conversion to my ph1 172
I have bought a homebuilt turbo engine which came with a turbo, turbo manifold boost hoses intercooler slimline rad and fan omex 600 ecu magane injectors uprated map sensor gearbox with helix four paddle clutch dump valve. Running low boost on stock internals mapped by schoff to 241.6bhp
Now im going to build up the engine thats in my car with cosworth pistons and rods acl big end bearings put the walbro furl pump in the tank etc..
Now a few people are now telling me the omex 600 is no good and i should get a gen90 from ktec
Also i have a 182 exhaust system on my 172 including manifold but the ph1 this engine came off had stock system so im gonna need the pipe to connect it up mega bucks for a decent one!!!
Question is should i work with what ive got or should i sell it and buy a kit from ktec ive tried contacting schoff but he wont get back to me so itl be a ktec kit

Morning all, popped up to Manchester yesterday to collect another new Cup from 172CupAdam. To say I was surprised when I turned up to see one of the best built/mint looking Cups I was over the moon, took it for a quick test drive and drove lovely. So proceeded whilst we were out to go to the petrol station to fill it up as I was definietly having it. Ha. Exchanged cash and I was on my 220 mile trip home. Here's a few snaps i've taken today, nothing great but i'll save the good pictures for the track photographers when it sees its first trackday.
Pretty much all suspension/geometry based modifications as modifying the engine for just trackdays is a waste of time in my opinion. Wanted GRP panels to make everything lightweight but again i'd rather spend the money on enjoying it, so unless I get lucky working away and making a few quid I wont be bothering. Always something I can look at in the long term.
This ones a keeper, promise! ;)

Hello! i just bought a 1.2 clio a month or so back very cheep, expecting hidden faults (and blindingly obvious ones too) as i didnt know a lot about clios really...
but i was looking for something i could do a bit of work on.
I bought the car looking quite sorry for itself with a few paint scuffs on the bumpers and wings etc.
This is how it looked
[IMG][/IMG]
you can just about see the glue on the left of the car to replace the broken clips on the wing.
My first job on this was replacing the rims and tyres
One was actually snapped and the rest all curbed and dented to the point of throwing the car about!
[IMG][/IMG]
I replaced them with knackered, yet safer, OEM rims after having a bit of a challenge with the locking wheel nuts whilst not having the key... joy! A bit of 'percussive maintenance' later and jobs a good'n.
[IMG][/IMG]
Next to fix was the clutch plate, as it slipped as soon as the engine got warm and going anything over 40 was just not possible! revs through the roof and no change in speed!
[IMG][/IMG]
After that came the bumper, bonnet and drivers side wing just to touch it up a little bit athough im sure the originals could have been fixed.
Old ones...
[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]
the rear driviers side light was cracked at the bottom but was a very easy fix with Mr.Ebay.
This is how the car stands at the minute...
[IMG][/IMG]
Next on the list is to change the radiator as it has a bit of rust on the bottom left corner and is getting wet. bad news!
And secondly, the airbag ECU. The passenger seat cables are already soldered and ECU is in a right state. its just a case of finding a working one. any help would be greatly appreciated!

Plans for the near(ish) future are:
Coilovers, not sure springs will take it low enough.
New rims, banded steelies or Borbet a's. That needs deciding!
172 kit, if i can afford the respray as im sure you dont get Gris Boreal 172's.
Rs grill.
Yellow tint fogs and sidelights
Coded bump strips and silver bullets.

Any advice/Comments are more than welcome!

Ill update any real progress!
Thanks guys :approve:

Hello, I Joined this forum a few days back and i must say some of the Clio's on here are that inspirational that they have made me want to modify mine!!

I want to go for a subtle look and not too 'Eye Popping'

First of all I want to say before i get pictures up. When i had this car a year ago i added some 15" Dezent Alloys which look awful and i lowered it on 16mm Apex Springs, which also dont help the look. The best thing i have done is probably add Heko Wind Deflectors.

BUT This is all going to change and i have a plan of action and i will be updating this thread on all the things i do.

First up ill show you when i had the Dezents fitted and the horrible ride height was waaaaayyy to high!! :nono:

[IMG][/IMG]

I then got a friend (Mechanic) to lower the suspension with Apex Springs

[IMG][/IMG]

Looked a little better in my eyes until I saw some of the Mk3 clios on here :dapprove:
Then i fitted some sexy Heko Wind Deflectors

[IMG][/IMG]

This is all my car looks like at the moment but i have a plan of what i am going to do.

Tomorrow I am going to debadge the 'Renault' and 'Clio' on the back leaving just the diamond

I have bought some 16" OZ SuperLeggera Alloys in Anthracite that I should have by next week.

AP Coilovers (Please suggest cheap options)

Stubby Aerial

Carbon Vinyl Wrap the interior trimmings and Possibly sprap the centre dash Anthracite

K&N Induction Kit (Suggestions?)

I want a nice sounding exhaust system but i want the exhaust hidden like the original (Please suggest some options?)

ClioSport Sticker in the back window when it comes :)

Going along with the project i will probably come up with some ideas so i will post.

Also if you have anything you would like to add, i would love to hear what constructive criticism you have and other stuff.

:D:D:D:D

Well as I’ve had the clio for a couple of years now I thought its about time I did a project thread as I’ve enjoyed reading everyone elses.

First a bit of car history, my first car (and best) was a Fiat Uno with a 1L engine that gave me my independence.

My mate and I always modified our cars from day one and the Uno was no exception so on went the lowering springs and drilled the air box, and it actually did handle quite well for a shed.

Then moved on to a 205 GTI 1.6, induction kit, Janspeed back box, but was deadly around corners so got shut pretty soon after.

Cavalier SRI (the round shape) with the 2L 16v red top engine, decat, induction kit, lowered, uprated disc and pads, superchip, 190bhp at the fly, pretty nippy.

(2003 I was 23) I then got a company van to drive round in so decided I needed a weekend car, so went down to Bristol and purchased a Toyota Celica GT4, really loved this. Induction kit, decat, 3” custom straight through exhaust, GReddy Turbo controller, 296Bhp did a steady 12.5 seconds on the ¼ mile –
<a href="http://www.cliosport.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=98037&d=1368628549" title="Name: 8741645336_d56d01be17_m.jpg
I then got wed in 2005 so the GT4 had to go to pay for the honeymoon etc.
Then came the Mondeo ST TDCI which I decat’d, lowered, foam filter, remap to 188bhp and a lot of talks but can’t remember –
8741644410_147666aebf_m.jpg

I then had an Astra DTI 2L (100Bhp) that I chipped for my runs back and forth to London, then had another company van, and then got another Astra but a 2005 one which I lowered, chipped (190+bhp) decat’d, uprated brakes and took on a couple of track days down at Blyton where it showed up a few cars –
<a href="http://www.cliosport.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=98039&d=1368628623" title="Name: 8741645796_3bb8b7a562_m.jpg
That got put on the back of a low loader and karted off for parts by someone (nicked) so decided I wouldn't buy any more expensive cars especially when the insurance wouldn't pay market value for it.
This then brings me to the Clio Ph1 172 that I purchased from a member but as I was in a rush I didn't have time to look around at others and when I got this home I found it was a bit of a dog mechanically –

I didn’t like the way it felt at anything above 50mph, there was vibrations coming from the front wheels, so got them re-balanced but this didn’t make much difference, so had the wheels off and found all but one to be buckled, this meant a new set of alloys, so managed to pick some up cheap with the idea of getting some better ones later on but they’re still on it to this day –

I then bought a load of suspension parts, new shocks all round, new wishbones and some camber bolts so as to get it tracked up right. Whilst replacing all that lot I found it had some Eibach Prolines sitting on the old shocks which I of course re-used.

I then decided I wanted to take her on the track so got some DS2500 pads and EBC disks (which are crap by the way) some more alloys with some Fedral 595R’s (got them cheap) and went off to Blyton again for a test –

It performed okay but wasn’t very happy with the turn in and got quite a bit of understeer then lift of oversteer (which wasn’t too bad) but there was work to do.
I then bought a Ktec stealth supersport which was way too loud so eventually found a centre section with a silencer in it and now sounds great. This led to another issue with the rear exhaust hanger, so replaced that with a solid rubber but this then led to a lot of knocking under the car where the manifold seemed to be fouling the underneath so I fitted some powerflex bushes to my dog bone that helped, whilst I was at it I also replaced the anti roll bar bushes. I then got some vibratech engine mounts, which I fitted at the same time as the aircon deletion kit –

In progress! Managed to get it back together, but the bloody thing wouldn’t start, didn’t have power going to the fuel pump, eventually found the big red isolation button which I reset and all was well again.
Me dad and I then decided on going to Cadwell for a blast so I added about 2.5 deg of camber to the front and fitted some 1 deg shims to the back, I got hold of some 25mm spacers for the front and 12mm for the back, this combination made the car handle much better and we had a great time –
https://www.facebook.com/video/embed...=3892270079440
try to ignore the commentary if you watch that.

we also went to a low noise Croft day which was good fun but there weren’t the nice cars to have a play with like at Cadwell, probably because of the noise restrictions.

We get really bad snow over these parts (Barnsley) so I decided on some old wheels with some snow tyres someone was selling on the forum, they worked out really well and probably saved me a couple of time from getting stuck.

I also found a decent engine for sale so promptly bagged that before Christmas for my plans next year.

That then leads me to this year (2013), with the new engine in the garage –

I set to and dismantled it from the subframe etc that it was delivered on and removed the cam cover so as to fit my new camshafts, some CatCam 438’s which I’d read so much about on the forum –

So popped them in and then resealed it and cleaned the block and cover so as to pop a bit of high temp paint on it and tidy it up a bit –

Then decided whilst I was replacing the sump gasket I might as well put some ARP Conrod bolt in there to make it a bit more reliable –

The shells looked okay too –

Looking a bit better now –

Timed it all back up with the new belt but while the inlets were off I decided to have a go at a bit of porting on the inlet manifolds -

Left not done, right finished (lower inlet)
Finished –

Top inlet manifold was done the same and painted ready to go back on –

Which is still waiting to go back on.

Then came D-day, got the engine bay stripped back, engine on the lift (me dad giving me a hand) –

Out it came and in went the 182 exhaust manifold I’d got from the forum –

New engine in –

Then just had to find were everything went again, a couple of hiccups with the wrong route taken for some fluid pipes meant it been drained again, the hardest part was getting it all lined up with the engine mounts and then with the gear linkage arm, which I found had been bent up, probably during transport. So managed to bend that back into place and this is how it is at the moment –

I found some old pipe work from the induction kit that I had on the astra so made myself a ktec style intake. While the engine was out I also fitted some solid top mounts from cooksport –

Which although making it a bit more noisy and knocky up front the turn in with the extra caster is a lot better and should make a good improvement when I’m next at Cadwell on the 6th July all been well.

So the cars going in for its MOT this Saturday and then hopefully I’ll drop it straight round to Paul at RS tuning in Leeds (fingers crossed) for mapping.

I've then to take the bloody engine out again as the gearbox isn't as expected and the synchro seems to have gone on 3rd and 4th so not too happy about that.

Had this for around 6 months and got bored, was ok to drive but in standard form the handling was crap and found the car to be a bit of a disappointment. I think that honda should of called the ukdm ep3 the type s and the jdm type r should be the true type r. There just isnt anything that special about the car, it needs all the toys from the jdm version e.g. lsd, more power, recaros and the championship white paint that stays true to the type r form.

My pulsar was monster quick as hell, handling was great 4 wheel drive is amazing for launches and putting power down. Scared alot of bikes and high end cars with this lets just put it that way! flame spitting beast :)

only sold the car because of the fuel holy s*$$ did it drink it! couldn't fault the car :)

Right now onto reason why i'm on here i was looking for a car that was fun to drive, faster than the ep3, less thirsty than the GTI-R, and newer than the lot. My best bud had a 200sx and was having simular issue as me with running costs so he went for a clio 182 cup in racing blue :) i fell in love with the car straight away couldnt get over the way it handled in the dry and rain! so much grip :)

so i knew what i wanted and after lots of research i decided to go for a clio 182 trophy
