Don’t forget power consumption and noise too. 4070 is a lot more efficient than a 3090. The 90 cards are basically just willy waving for most people, unless you’re looking for silly frame rates at 4K and are willing to pay a hefty premium for it, in which case fill your boots :)
I crumbled and upgraded my monitor

25% off currently and I got another 10% off through work. It’s replacing a similar but non-OLED Asus ROG monitor.
Arrives today...
I'm not sure how funny it is, but this was so sweet.
I work in support, but a few of my jobs have also involved some toolset coding or bug fixing. I was looking at a major issue for a customer and writing a fix for the problem. They'd changed something upstream which "shouldn't have any impact"...
Despite what I said earlier, I played through it again in the mode which leaves you with all the upgrades you had when finished the last game.
So much more fun. Skipped all the dialogue, wondered around like a tank, still some situations where you'd get pasted if you were stupid.
Honestly all...
I keep reading the title of this thread as “Up the pink shitbox”, which changes the context a bit.
Not sure if disappointed or relieved that it’s about a car.
It depends on the pump, you’d need to check the specific AIO. That said, you can pick up manually controlled 12v PWM signal generators for less than a tenner on eBay, or Noctua do one for about £20 if you want a trusted brand.
Yep, something along those lines should do the job just fine.
You can now get air coolers which can handle 300W loads too, but they’ll be on their limit. A decent water cooling loop should handle that load with headroom to spare.
Really it depends what your future plans are, if you think you...
Yes, there should be plenty of options, the main potential difficulty is in mounting the cooler to what you want to cool and getting good thermal contact.
Is it something which could be immersed in water? Or something non-conducive like mineral oil?
Holy mother of god……
We got very close to having a back door which could arbitrarily inject malicious code into ssh requests as part of the default install of some major Linux distros...
That’s really interesting, thanks for the feedback. I was hoping for way more plug and play than that, a bit of tweaking is fine but not tons of messing around.
Maybe that’s a benefit of Fanatec, is their compatibility a bit more mature?
I imagine they've run into some fairly mahoosive cashflow problems because their entire shipping chain collapsed. Will have been chargebacks a-plenty from people who paid on credit cards for a start.
Then you've got the reputational damage which will have impacted new orders too. All forseeable...
Yeah that’s a massive vote of no confidence in him from the bank right there.
“We’ll give you another few months to get your s**t together, but only if you fire this useless berk.”
Picked up a sliding pedal mount for £40 in a sale recently, it's made such a difference to have easy fine adjustment on the pedal position.
Definitely ready for a wheel upgrade now. It's still so, so much better than a controller but I've got to the point where I want some detailed feedback...
I’m more thinking of the difference OLED makes compared to LED, the contrast and blacks are so good. I think micro/nano LED is supposed to get close but not quite there. My current monitor was a very good one at the time (ROG Strix XG35VQ) but compared to the 42” TV on the Xbox it’s nowhere.
IIRC the Alienware AW3423DWF was supposed to be the pick if you want something a bit smaller.
I keep looking at these new generation OLED ultrawides ever since I got an OLED TV for my XBox, they just look sooooo good.
Yeah I was having real trouble with the main gun, until I remembered that one of my buffs was frag bullets. Yeah, probably not ideal for that mission 😂
I ended up just wading in there and punching most of them to death, because they had handguns and I’d buffed my armour so they were basically just amusing squishy things 😂
Finished it.
@Darren S your review is 100% spot on. By the time I'd upgraded to auto-heal, full armour and 50% of the combat tree I was basically unstoppable unless I did something incredibly stupid.
Glad I played it, can't see me going back to it, worth what I paid.
Any chance at all of a price starting with a four would come from low mileage and everything else being spot on, but if the service history is not right, plus it’s been run on the cheap and chavved up too….. Mmmmm Davanti tyres. If it has decent ones on the back the understeer must be truly...
That's fair, but again it's not us, we can use any current mainstream browser. Chrome is what they chose. Sitting on an old version with a stupid bug in it is also their choice. This is a big financial institution so it's locked down tighter than a gnat's chuffhole.
Oh if it's tales of tech support you want I got 'em. We are currently having much fun with a customer. Keep in mind that we don't do end user support, this is talking to an actual IT team.
They keep getting an error message coming up when using our application. It's nothing to do with us, it's...
That was brilliant - highly recommended for anyone into retro games or computers. Plenty of hand-on stuff as well as a really strong collection of historic machines.
I’m going to start volunteering there.
They should put the badges and exhaust back to standard for a start, what’s on it now will put off a good chunk of the market. Anything with a hint of being barried is an immediate scroll on by for a lot of people and it’s not a rare car.
Tough sell as a private sale too, people tend to want...
I’m going to RMC - The Cave this weekend

Looking forward to some serious retro geekery.
They have a retro arcade machine museum on the same site too which I did about a month back - great memories but it was a bit claustrophobic for me so I...
